Town Would Allow Scotland to Rejoin Swansea
Town Would Allow Scotland to Rejoin Swansea
Tuesday, 8th Feb 2011 22:51

TWTD understands that Town are willing to allow Jason Scotland to move on loan to his former club Swansea. The Swans’ interest in the 31-year-old, who was at the Liberty Stadium between 2007 and 2009, first surfaced last month with manager Brendan Rodgers subsequently confirming that he could move for the Trinidad and Tobago international.

Scotland, who is yet to start a game since the change of manager at Portman Road, is understood to have met with new boss Paul Jewell and been told that Town will not stand in his way if he wants to rejoin the Swans.

Swansea are unlikely to be in a position to pay Scotland’s entire Town wage and as with previous loan deals — Lee Martin’s spell at Charlton, for example — the Welshmen will probably pay only a significant proportion of his salary. If the clubs are able to negotiate a deal, a loan could be a precursor to a permanent switch in the summer.

Scotland, a £750,000 signing from Wigan in the summer, has made 22 starts and seven sub appearances for Town, scoring seven goals, all at Portman Road.

Town’s willingness to allow the Trinidadian to leave would suggest that manager Paul Jewell has a striking target in mind, having narrowly failed to land Swindon’s Charlie Austin during the transfer window, the 21-year-old eventually joining Burnley.

If Scotland, who is also believed to be interesting three other Championship sides, were to move on, the Blues’ only out-and-out strikers would be Tamás Priskin, Connor Wickham and youngster Ronan Murray, although Lee Martin and Jaime Peters have both played as a second striker in the past.

Aside from Austin, the only other striker mentioned in connection with Town since Jewell took over at Portman Road was Peterborough’s Craig Mackail-Smith, who the new Blues boss watched in action shortly after taking over as manager.

However, Jewell subsequently insisted that he watched that game with no specific targets in mind.

I think PJ has been told he has to cut the grocery bill at PR . this will help big time

I am sure PJ wouldn't let Scotland go to Swansea unless we had an adequate replacement coming in.....

Don't understand the logic here - letting striker cover go (and he has scored goals and been a handful when he's come on as sub) to the competition. It would also mean that we have to find someone else. Odd.

Gotta love this - you are all cacking yourselves and acting as if Scotland has already gone - grow up. Has he left yet? No. How about just having a little bit of patience?

Oh and Erica - you were rightly booed for suggesting Kuqi.

Shame. I like Scotland. I think to score 7 goals in half a season in that team was a good effort and he deserves credit for that. Think back to the Leicester game he was the difference that day which was a big 3 points for us. If others can improve since keane has gone then Scotland can aswell. Doesn't suit our shape with 1 upfront though. I would like to see him playing off Wickham/Priskin in a 4-4-2.

I would rather see Scotland start than Priskin , i believe Scotland would score us a lot more goals playing now with more width and passing ability in the system Jewell has.Priskin simply does not score enough goals as a striker was Keanes problem with him and is still the same .Both were pre season panic buys anyway

good point Bluelady, Maybe Scotland isn't for Ipswich.

I would like to see him stay and play in, Like people have said a 442. But if so then I have to make a choice between Priskin and Connor. I would rather play Priskin than Scotland so his face may not fit in that case.

I do think he will score another 8-9 goals in goal mouth scrambles as he has strength and cannot be easilt pushed off the ball

However to sum up I have always liked PJ. Remember how it felt when he took Bradford and Wigan up at our expense? I thought at those times this guy knows his stuff and now he's ours :o) So I trust that he will not let him go without an alternative plan. Maybe he has Ronan in mind for a role. Has he seen something on the training pitch. In PJ I trust

Whilst I agree with many of the comments regrading Scotland's ability, the fact is PJ likes to play 4-5-1. Scotland is too fat and slow to play the solitary striker up front. PJ will let hoim go and find another, who can fit into the system.

On another note 4-5-1 was the favoured formation of RK. Funny how when we played it at home he was widely condemned. The difference being that PJ encourages the midefield forward to support the attack, whereas RK wanted them in a more defensive role. Result PJ wins matches RK didn't. Just goes to show that 4-5-1 can be a winner, can result in a positive approach to the game and not an negative one and can result in entertaining football. Another sign that RK was absolutley clueless.

Peters to fit into the team as a fast (if not very tall) striker?

He's played that role before and, if Ipswich are planning to play the ball on the ground more, our solution could already be in place ...

The amount of people that are saying Scotland is fat, slow and lazy! What a way to support our top goal scoring striker!
Kuqi will score goals in the Premiership. He still has it.

pters as a replacement???????????
sctland is not slow. He is a bit fat. That can help sometimes,he carries a fair amount of weight when he challenges for the ball, and the faster he goes the greater momentum he has (sometimes not easy to stop).would rather see scotland than priskin in a team, scotland doesn't fall easy

are being sarcastic when saying that scotland is world class, or cld be playing for liverpool or arsenal. get real. while i wld agree we shldnt let him go til we got a replacement, bcse yes, given opportunities in front of goal he wld score goals, hes nowhere near the player he was when at swansea. p. jewell, terrifies defenders with his pace?!!!! he hasnt got ne pace nemore. u clearly not seen him much this season, or as i said u being sarcastic. as 4 kuji, u having a laugh. did u c him at portman road earlier in season. hes past his best. if newcastle really interested, just shows how desperate they getting

I'm sure PJ wouldn't let Scotland go without a plan in place to replace him. I'd like him to see him stay as he does get goals but agree he doesn't look fit trust in PJ he knows what he's doing.

What a waste? He's not the right 30 goal a season striker?
Get a grip, get him fit and play the guy. Even in Roy Keanes disfunctional side he managed to score.
And I thought everyone would get a chance with P Jewel.
How does subsidising his wages at Swansea help ITFC?
If you want to get rid of someone try Lee Martin, he can't play football. Not even in Div 1.

brett anderson. u clearly not been at portman road 4 last 2 home games or ud have ssen lee martin being our best player in both matches. as 4 scotland, yes he scored foals 4 a few games but hadnt 4 abt 9 games prior 2 keanes sacking, & appears so overweight & unfit, that sending him on loan 2 get games makes sense. besides, why wld pj drop players who are playing well 2 give him a game here. thought that was the biggest prob with keane, lets not go back there please
