Murray Outstanding for Torquay
Murray Outstanding for Torquay
Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2011 13:46

Torquay manager Paul Buckle says on-loan Town striker Ronan Murray's performance was “outstanding” during the Gulls’ 2-1 victory over Cheltenham at Plainmoor last night. The Irishman netted his first goal for his loan club from close range with 20 minutes remaining.

Buckle said: "Murray was excellent, different class with his touch and link-up play. He is a goalscorer and he's up and running now.

"He was outstanding and it will do him no harm at all to get off the mark because not a lot had been falling for him in front of goal. He's also a cracking kid to work with.

"Unfortunately, we lose him on Friday for the Republic of Ireland U21s but it is credit to him, and shows how well he's doing that he's been called up.

"He will go there full of confidence after getting the winner, he thoroughly deserved the goal and we thoroughly deserved the win.”

Murray left Plainmoor straight after last night’s game to get a taxi to Gatwick in order to catch a plane to Portugal for the Irish U21 side’s friendly in Agueda on Friday.

in my opinion he should have been given more of a chance while still at town

Good move by PJ. Get him playing games and when he's ready (start of next season?) bring him back and put him in the team. Win-win situation. COYB!

Would have liked to have seen him given a chance in our team! Particularly as Scotland/Priskin are poor.

Great news.its good to bring on the young talent in a competitive game away from the pressure of FPR.

Dear Tractorog - unfortunately I think it's just PR these days, not FPR!

As per some of the posts on here, why did we not give him a run?
We are safe and its hardly as if our strikers are setting the world alight.
He could well be the future of this club but we will not now know.

its a lot of pressure sticking him in our team that is not scoring enough from the front and so all the focus is on the strikers... i think its a great move, only for a few weeks, bag some goals at lower level, gain confidence and come back raring to go come Sept.

I think this is good management, if only be sent rhodes out online rather selling him. These players need to get knocked about abit, and learn there trade.

I believe this chap deserves a chance in our side I fear will be another great prospect who will get pushed down the pecking order and finally out of club when we sign new strikers in summer!

sonian/canarykiller - you do realise it's a LOAN and he will be coming back (hopefully improved and more confident)?

We haven't lost him for good!

He will be reassed come summer. If he shines [ out of the strikers ] then surely he must play. Or doesn't it work like that ?

He's hardly likely to be given a chance next season when we've spent however many millions on our 25 goal a season striker. At the start of the season, every point counts as we all think we have a chance of promotion. If we had played Murray for a few games he might have forced himself into consideration for a placce in the team/squad. Sending him on loan means he won't have a chance till the fag end of next season. I would rather have put Murray and Wickham up front to see what happens rather than watch another game with Scotland/Priskin. This loan is even more foolish if we now let Priskin go to Swansea.

I saw him come on away at Watford i thought he changed the game, i believe the boy does have a future at PR, the only concern with Murray is clearly his stature, is he ever going to possess the physical attributes to be a force at Championship level im not sure, but good luck Ronan!

He is not the tallest but he can build up his strength and bulk up like that.
At 5' 7" he isnt too short, same as Messi who is well used to being battered around the pitch. (+ Billy Clarke)
Murray seems to have a great attitude and plays with real heart and aggression. If he bulks up a bit which Im sure he will than there is no reason why he cant be a success. If he can handle League 2 than Im sure he will fine.
Best of luck Ronan.
