Contract Situation Clearer Next Week
Contract Situation Clearer Next Week
Thursday, 5th May 2011 11:41

Blues boss Paul Jewell says the futures of the club’s out-of-contract senior players is likely to become clearer early next week. The Town manager is due to speak to some of those who have been offered deals today.

Jewell says the likes of Brian Murphy, who could play at Leicester on Saturday, Colin Healy and Arran Lee-Barrett are due to speak to him: “I’m seeing Brian this morning. I’m also meeting Colin Healy today. We’ve made these players offers, the ball is in their court and we’re waiting for them to come back to us.

“I think next week things will be sorted out because we’re in on Monday and Tuesday for a debrief and to give the players their workload for the summer. Things will probably be sorted out more on Monday or Tuesday.”

Skipper David Norris and defender Gareth McAuley look increasingly likely to leave the club at the end of the season.

I have no idea why Arran Lee-Barrett's new contract hasn't been ripped up yet, 1 for the fact it hasn't yet been signed, 2 because he's finally shown he's not good enough (fair play to him that he went as long as he did before he was shown up)

Can't work out why, if these players are leaving, why he is putting them in for the next game. Norris, Mcauley etc etc should be left out and Brown, Hyam, etc etc be given game time in a menaingless game.

I'll think we'll no more when the final whistle goes. Look out for who throws their shirt intothe crowd as a good bye gesture!

Bye bye Mcauley and Norris. Thanks for the effort, unfortunately on too many occasions you were surrounded by dross. Have to say, Norris and Mcauley have been 2 pretty solid players for us over the last few seasons. Not overly disappointed to see them go though, i don't suppose either will go on and do anything of note and they're clearly on big money. Hopefully it will free up resources to sign Bullard.

As for Lee-Barrett, rip that contract up now please and publicly announce Fulop will be our number 1 for the forseeable. He's plenty good enough for a top side at this level.

@WeWereZombies

... very good point

What gets me is all the hassle, aggro and bad feelings with Plymouth when we tried for ages to sign Chuck and now he's just walking away. How times change...

All three are punching above their weight at Town, they should be biting our hands off for a new deal. If there are not then get shot!

McAuley and Norris were Magilton's two key signings, costing the club over £3M. A failure to renew their contracts or sell them last summer means none of this money can be recouped, so both investments are totally lost. I presume Clegg is responsible as Chief Exec, so should he not resign? Evans must be really fed up with his money being thrown away!

Worth a punt

Hibernian striker Derek Riordan will leave the club in the summer.

Don't forget that Clegg is ME's public face, I doubt he actually makes any decisions of his own. I think this is ME being naive last summer. He didn't want to give RK any more money to waste but also didn't allow him to offer players new contracts while they still had an existing contract

if i was ALB or Brian Murphy id accept whatever i was offered! as for norris and mcauley, i dont blame them, treated awfully by Clegg. Or thats what they said in Liquid last saturday night!

Well said Jimmy Jazz. There are a few broken records on here! For all we know, Clegg is the one desperately trying to sign players, & it is Evans holding out. Clegg isn't the one writing the cheque! The fault lies with him as much as it does Evans, and the last management regime.
ALB - Useless
Murphy - Decent enough
Norris - Decent enough
McAuley - Decent enough
NONE cannot be replaced. They are certainly not the future of this club. Ship em out!

i agree ME is by no means without blame!

I can't believe so many people are laying into ALB! He had a couple of shocking performances against the budgies and Swansea but so did most of the squad. I've never considered him to be a first choice keeper, Fulop is clearly No. 1, but think he's a fairly decent back-up option.

By contrast, I'll be sad to see Norris leave but accept that it need not be the end of the world for our midfield. Macauley is another matter, clearly the rock of what has been a fairly shakey defence. If he goes we'll have to add a very decent centre back to the list along with a new right back.

Norris has gone :(

Lets build a new team.

Fulop for number 1 or a new keeper. No ALB!!

This has been going on for ages now and is becoming boring. The players either sign or go. The club at totally at fault for leaving this late.

Is it only me that thinks Colin Healy and Arran Lee-Barrett are not that good, is it worth offering them contracts? There must be some other clubs players that are out of contract that are better, or other gems lower league?

Just hope Mcaulay Stays he is vital to us

I get the impression that McAuley and Norris are leaving, if only because they have been messed around by the current regime which is unfortunate. Like many others, I do not believe that this should have been allowed to come to pass (I'm not sure it was ME's idea to effectively write off £4m worth of transfer fees either - I'd be fuming if I was him!) and should have been sorted last summer.

Bit surprised that none of the fringe players have committed yet but wouldn't be so fussed if they left. I suspect that if they haven't decided to stay come next week PJ will make their minds up for them! He has bigger fish to fry this summer and no time to mess about...

McAuley has been a fine player for us and still could have been for another season, but he's not blessed with too much pace and in a year's time will have lost another yard or two, and a year after that..............
Allan Hunter wasn't the quickest but was probably the best centre half we've ever had but he had Kevin Beattie to do his running for him. Unfortunately McAuley does'nt have a Beattie beside him.

Come on PJ! ALL of those named have been offered contracts ~ set a deadline, stick to it. Any who haven't signed, tear up offer and say goodbye. We only want lads who WANT to play for the club! (PS Don't use ANY of them on Saturday!)
