Lee-Barrett Signs Deal
Lee-Barrett Signs Deal
Thursday, 12th May 2011 12:45

Keeper Arran Lee-Barrett put pen to paper on his new two-year contract this morning, having agreed terms with the Blues last week. The former academy schoolboy returned to his hometown club as a replacement for the retiring Shane Supple in August 2009.

The 27-year-old was delighted to commit himself to Town until 2013: “Obviously I’m very pleased to have sorted my future out here. It’s a great football club and it’s good to be part of the squad going forward.

“Like any player who is coming to the end of their contract, it’s always at the back of your mind what is going to happen.

“I’ve been in a similar situation before and that experience helped me deal with it this time, but a lot of it is out of your control. You just focus on the football and trying to prove you deserve a new contract.

“That’s what has pleased me, that the manager sees me as part of his plans and has given me the two years.”

He's a local lad and not bad for a backup goalkeeper as his wages are (hopefully) low meaning we can spend the money on other areas of the team. If our first choice goalie (Fulop or replacement) gets a serious injury, we can always bring in a keeper on loan. If there is any trust in the Pollitt goalkeeping coach rumours that would give us a third option, then there are youth keepers.

Partytime !!! - Clegg has signed someone.
This lad is a long way from being a good keeper - what he does need to possibly become one, is a damn good Coach. Fact is we haven't got one - although Pollitt could fit the bill if he signs.
No forget it, two contract signings by Clegg this week just can't be done - is nearer to reality.

Come on he's not that bad.Yes Fulop is one of towns best keepers on his day of the last decade, and ALB has been released from about 7 different clubs, but hes a decent understudy for the championship, and is on less money than murphy, who he is as good as IMO

Would say a third choice keeper at moment so are we planning on someone else as a number 1? A 2 year contract seems very generous considering his recent displays. I hope he proves me wrong though.

I fear some on here have forgotten what it means to be a supporter. Supporting the team, of which Lee-Barrett is now a part for possibly the next two years. I'm not jumping for joy but I'll give him my full support when he does next come on to the pitch for us.

Also, how this signing can be seen as another opportunity to hurl abuse at Clegg I don't know. Whoever mentioned his shirt-tie combination, well, scraping the barrel a bit it has to be said. Everyone loves a scapegoat though and seemingly none more so than our fans - makes reality and life easier to digest I guess if everything is perceived in such black and white terms.

Lee-Barrett's made mistakes recently and there's significant room for improvement, but then he's also still relatively young and has come up through our youth system - everyone should be wanting him to succeed here, not slating him based on a difficult spell between the sticks. If he hardly plays for us again, so be it. Let's also remember Jewell's comments a couple of weeks ago, that this was a position for which we arguably had one too many. Murphy was never an option for us: he'd made his decision not to sign a while back (I'm assuming due to his desire to play first team football) and so this was never a toss-up between Murphy and Aaron. If we do sign another keeper, I can only see him being a part-coach as well or with Fulop going in the other direction. Emergency loans are specifically designed for when the situation of two injured keepers arises at a club.

Finally, whoppit: you're always very quick to exaggerate the negatives at this club, but not once have I seen you accentuate the positives. To suggest that he's an absoluteLY crap player is to belie the truth of the matter: not ready to play day in day out at this level? Certainly. Hopeless player? Certainly not. COYB
