Clegg: No Deals Imminent
Clegg: No Deals Imminent
Saturday, 21st May 2011 10:36

Chief executive Simon Clegg says Town fans will have to wait a little bit longer for the Blues’ first signings of the summer with no deals set to be completed over the weekend. However, the Town chief says that situation can change very quickly with attempts to land new additions to Paul Jewell's squad ongoing.

Clegg, speaking to TWTD at last night’s launch of the Ipswich Town in Europe exhibition, said: “We’re working behind the scenes, there’s nothing that is imminent at this moment in time, Paul's away at the moment, but that doesn’t mean the situation might not change in 24 or 48 hours.

“But at the moment here’s nothing imminently in the pipeline which will come to fruition within the next 48 hours.”

The chief executive kept to the club’s usual policy of not talking about specific targets: “I do not get involved in discussions about speculation or about individual players until we have something to announce one way or another.”

how difficult is it to understand what clegg says????

he dont believe anything will happen in the next 48hours but things can change quick in football, meaning things could change pace at anytime.
ffs he is the public face and voice of marcus. who contacted the donnie chairman??? marcus did
our problem is we are trying to get things done to soon, players have only just finished the season and will be going to offical club events before they sit down and talk about possible moves with their family.

I don't know what is more boring, listening to the moaners, Clegg knockers or just plainly having to wait for new signings.

This is exactly what we don't want to hear. I know there is still plenty of time until next season but we need to build a decent side. In my opinion we need to try and get all the players we require by pre season or maybe a week after it begins. We need 6 fresh new faces at least and they will need time to gel. It's the same old crap year in year out and most of the problems are with Evans and Clegg in my opnion. They don't know how to run a football results prove that on and off the field. Sack the waste of space Clegg and get in Joe Royle as director of football/ Chief excecutive. Joe would be ideal. If Joe had money we would of returned to big time ages ago.

Deja Vu! It may only be May, but this is following the same path as the previous three seasons. Both Magilton and Keane said they wanted new signings early but never got them. So why will it be different this time, its always "Irons in the Fire" with Ipswich. We could do with a "big" signing of some sort before June is up, just to show us fans that Ipswich is a place footbalers want to come.

here we go again. surprise, surprise, the clegg knockers are rife on here. for heavens sake, wake up. yes, the fact the papers stated a signing was close, makes it frustrating it not happened, but then the evening star writes rubbish most of the time neway. clegg nothing 2 do with that, nor the speculation over players being linked with us. its only 2 weeks or so since our season finished, so it unlikely many transfers are going to take place for a while. apart from players going on holiday, etc, remember people, that no players available on a free, can actually sign a deal(officially) until july 1st. so just relax, lets see where we are in a month or twos time regards to signings.

No deals with season ticket prices either. More for less next year then.

Blues1- If that's true, how come McCauley signed for West Brom on friday, assuming TWTD's information is correct?

Ffs! Sit back relax and chill! We have soo muchh time to get signings! We are in better hands this year than we was last year. Yeahh all this sharp and coppinger saga that is going on just say we did get them! And then in mid june chopra and whittingham became. Available would anyone be a bit gutted that we maybe could have had chops and whittingham instead of sharp and coppinger? Because I no I would be! Let's just relax chill and be patient

...Still think most are missing the point...PJ siad two signings were immenent...bids were put in at a price he thought was fair and aprice he thought the club would do business for....it got rejected so no signings.....what would we rather do...wait for good ones or get in a waste of money just to satisfy the detractors on this site who are moaning that we haven't signed anyone yet???......let's hope we don't waste 3million plus on another prsiskin and martin....rather bide our time and see what movement there is post players holidays etc.....perhapds those who want signings should also go away on holiday and read the site in mid july...save all this impatince.

hamish. if u read my post correctly, u will see i put officially in brackets. all players contracts end on june 30th, so technically, mccauley is still our player till then. therefore, while he may have signed a deal, west brom cannot register that deal with the f.a. til 1st july. so, if 4 example, man utd were 2 decide they then wanted mccauley, technically, he could sign 4 them instead,. (remember ian crook). also, acccording 2 star 2nite, he signing in next few days, so not actually signed yet necessarily.

" Nothing imminent in next 48 hrs " more like nothing imminent in next 48 days ! We need to be clinching deals with players now so they have time to gel ! If PJ is going to keep saying " new players next week " and not doing it he will soon lose credibility with the fans who have had the same old twaddle for too long !

meekreech. get real. 48 hrs, 48 days, wot it really matter. will only just be in2 preseason training in 48 days so that not a prob is it? if, like keane we not sign ne1 til last week b4 season, then start worrying. besides, what is all this gelling rubbish neway. sounds like a keno excuse frm his 1st season. same season forest bought 9 new players & were near top of table all season. as long as players we buy suit the style of play that pj wants 2 play, gelling wont be a problem. neway folks, stop whinging, be patient, im sure the signings will come. so just get behind the club. we're supposed 2 be supporters after all, not protesters. coyb

We kept hearing all this last year and we took too long to get good players in and they were then snapped up elsewhere. After 6 years of finishing outside the top 6 we are now a mid table club and not a big draw anymore..it pains me to say it.

Truly I have no wish to to be one of the "moaners", but I am finding it harder and harder to take the management at Portmand Road, and Clegg in particular seriously. As other point out, this has gone on for three season or more. This season ITFC have to show serious intent or I fear more players (if any worthwhile ones are left by then) will be looking for pastures new and this club will soon be on a downward spiral.

meekreech is right - leave things for any length of time, and all that's left is dross.
And of course we all know that this will again be the case, if we are honest with ourselves.
Clegg will be happy IF he has got 13,000 season tickets in the bag - all he'll now be focused on is enjoying his holiday.

have to agree with quite a few of the above posts, where is this club going? we're just a basic mid-table championship club and really can't attract anybody of note. We already have taken 1 step back with the probability of 3 of our most consistent players not playing next year (not sure on Bullard) and we hear the same old clap trap from cleggy. Unfortuantely I can't see any difference next season either, PJ really has his work cut out to do anything and will have to rely on a mix of youngsters and maybe the odd astute signing to get this club going.

chalk_22 added 18:08 - May 21
pj's the right man for the job, however if clegg does not get any of his intrests and targets, then agreed he has got his work cut out.

@chalk 22: It's MAY! Notice how hardly anyone has bought any players yet? That's because there is still 3 months before the deadline closes so I have no idea what you are moaning about.

Also the phrase "Don't shoot the messenger" comes into mind here. Just because Clegg is the one saying it, who says it's his fault? We haven't even had any offers accepted yet so how the hell is it his fault?

I'm thinking that not much is actually his fault. I just think we're going for players who want more money than they should be getting and he's trying to stick to reasonable wages. What's so bad about that? We don't want greedy, unloyal, all about the money players at the club do we?
