Clegg: No Deals Imminent
Clegg: No Deals Imminent
Saturday, 21st May 2011 10:36

Chief executive Simon Clegg says Town fans will have to wait a little bit longer for the Blues’ first signings of the summer with no deals set to be completed over the weekend. However, the Town chief says that situation can change very quickly with attempts to land new additions to Paul Jewell's squad ongoing.

Clegg, speaking to TWTD at last night’s launch of the Ipswich Town in Europe exhibition, said: “We’re working behind the scenes, there’s nothing that is imminent at this moment in time, Paul's away at the moment, but that doesn’t mean the situation might not change in 24 or 48 hours.

“But at the moment here’s nothing imminently in the pipeline which will come to fruition within the next 48 hours.”

The chief executive kept to the club’s usual policy of not talking about specific targets: “I do not get involved in discussions about speculation or about individual players until we have something to announce one way or another.”

Look PJ Is the right man it not even transfer-window yet so all stop moaning & go on holiday from TWTD Last few years it was the managers fault. If no signings by 1st july then you can start moaning I will then. so let them do there work they are looking for players & might wanna keep it quiet from the press/Pubic. Not many teams have signed players. After may bank holiday monday/Championship Play Off Final that's when teams will look for players so why you all impatient for? Why??

J4ck22: hang on if we target players quickly then we have more of a chance of getting them, as other clubs will not be interested... think about it.

in a bit of a defence to clegg he is only doing what his boss is telling him to do. Mr Evans is i guess is trying not to spend over the odds of his companys money. I guess the money comes from Mr Evans companys budget and not what his got in his own personall bank account. In regards to these players being on holidays then they may be but i thought a large amount of employed agentsto get their deals and pieces sortedout on the players behalf. If Jewell says he needs a certain amount of players and is given a budget and has agents fee, possible transfers fees and wages to consider.

J4ck22, I couldn't agree more. All this 'sort it out Clegg' nonsense is getting tedious. It's supposedly Clegg's fault Doncaster won't sell. It's Clegg's fault Austin decided on Burnley who probably offered more, and are a better team. It's Cleggs fault Norris wants a 3 year contract. Clegg Clegg Clegg. He could sign Messi on a free and some idiots would still moan.

Im not going to panic yet. Like many have said, its still early days with the season not officially ending yet and the transfer window not opening until June 1st anyway. If we still havent signed anyone by late July then I will panic. I believe once we sign one player a few more will follow in quick succession. COYB!

I agree Lay, who are these people who think clegg is doing a good job taking his time to sign players! The people who support clegg, im afraid your outnumbered!

Yes I know its early but I really do hope its not another summer of discontent!!! Last year a player who was willing to sign and didnt, and here we to again I feel, I just hope I am wrong. Otherwise why can we not do the deals, is there just simply not enough money to pay a top championship player the 15-20k he wants or are we just stubborn and unwilling to do deals, its what w offer no negotiations!

Lay, Chalk 22 what are we on about boys? Lay you ovbiously know nothing about football, so go prove that by supporting Norwich, Clegg sort it out! You're hated here, and you put off every good player that steps into suffolk! Sort it out!!!

Clegg's done nothing wrong but I'm bored and have no one to moan about so I'm going to say I hate him and want him out!

Mr Clegg needs to retire
He has earned money to excess without providing great expertise.(Any)
And has only acted as a block to the football world ,which is foreign to him.
Are you poor Mr Clegg? Can you point to one decision that you have made that has been profitable or useful to ITFC ?

Whoever has posted 'that we should relax as we have plenty of time', er...we don't.
Pre-season starts in 4 or 5 weeks and we need to get payers in and settled before that if we're to have any cohesion for the start of the season especially as we're looking at bringing in 5 or 6 new faces.

sorry if it has been said, but why does the name "clegg" suggest incompetence?

Some people need to be more positive on here. Think about QPR. They finished 17th last season and were just a crap mid-table team. Look where they are now. That could be us next season.

I wouldn't say people are looking to moan at Clegg or lack of signings so far I believe it comes down to passion for ITFC. We all want town to be up there challenging and in the mix and when we use be one of the best sides in the league and playing some great football you couldn't support a better club in my opnion the atmopshere was superb and the feeling in and around the town was good.

People need to wake up to reality,
it is going to be extremely difficult to attract any players to this club, which quite frankly is a shambles, it's common knowledge in football circles, that's why we are always at the bottom of any wish list, come August there will be a few second raters plus the garbage that we already have, get used to it.

Then Ipswich should keep deals private til they are done, and stop raising peoples hopes, Like has been said we got the "deals are imminent" all the time last year and none fruitioned. Now Jewell has started repeating it this year.

Since Magilton took over, i have been in the "Believe it when it happens" camp regarding ITFC transfers.

Agreed that Clegg was rather good in 'Last Of The Summer Wine'...however I thought he stole the show in 'Diagnosis Murder'. I think he is now reaching the stage of his career where it is inevitable that he is going to be the new face of Werthers Originals.

Checking through the Sky news site, just 6 (six) transfer deals have been done in the Championship since the beginning of May.

Three by Derby (Fielding, Ward and Robinson), two by Hull (Dudgeon and Evans) and one by Boro (Dobie). Of those six, four were players already on loan at the clubs for which they're signing. One more is a free, with the player out of contract at his former club. Only one (Dobie to Hull) is an actual signing, with fee paid, of a player completely new to the club.

So why are people ranting like there's a constant stream of transfer deals being done and we're being left behind? IT HASN'T STARTED YET!!

Guthrum the reason everyone is going on is Jewell came out and said we will have signing next week and that was two weeks ago! Plus we have ahead start on everyone else apparently what utter rubbish you really think we are only team trying to sign players!
