Bullard's Future Still Up in the Air
Bullard's Future Still Up in the Air
Saturday, 28th May 2011 14:23

Loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard says he is still unsure where he’ll be playing football next season. Town’s Player of the Year, who was speaking on this morning’s Soccer AM, was unaware of newspaper claims of interest from Norwich City, although he didn't rule out a possible summer move to Norfolk.

The 32-year-old says his future remains up in the air and that he hasn’t been able to get hold of Hull City manager Nigel Pearson: “I don’t know [what’s going to happen].

“I tried to phone the manager and everyone at Hull's on holiday! I’ve got two years left at Hull and I enjoyed my time there.

“What I want to do is play some football somewhere. I wasn’t playing at Hull, so to get some football next season would be top of the list.”

Bullard was unaware of newspaper links with the Canaries but didn’t dismiss the possibility of a switch north of the border: “Fantastic club, they did brilliant to get in the Premier League, so who knows? I haven’t been [taking any notice of speculation]. “

The former Peterborough and Fulham man revealed that doesn’t have an agent, choosing instead to discuss his deals himself, something he says doesn’t always go down well with managers: “I usually do [the negotiations] myself.

“It’s quite difficult sometimes. [Managers] don’t like confrontation a lot of them. Sometimes when it comes to contracts I can be [confrontational]!”

Bullard joked that his Town Player of the Year gong was more down to the rest of the squad’s failings than his own good displays and says he was surprised to win having played only 16 games: “We went to a function and they called my name out and I thought they were messing about. But they weren’t, I had won Player of the Year from the fans, which is great for me.

“I really enjoyed it at Ipswich, it was really good. I had three months there. I wasn’t playing at Hull, so I went down on loan and I enjoyed my time there under Paul Jewell. We had a good ending to the season, won a few games there and I scored a few goals.”

In addition to Town and Norwich, QPR have been tipped as other contenders for the one-time England call-up’s signature, while Bullard’s former clubs Wigan and West Ham have also been linked.

RetroBlue - I wouldn't mind a dose of your optimism! :-)

I didn't see Jimmy's interview but it is easier on my mind if I accept he is not coming here rather than keep hoping and being let down. Besides, there are plenty other decent players out there who we need, including strikers!

I watched soccer am and there is no chance of him joining us, i actually think he was abit disrespectful of our club considering we've regenrated his career again!!! Awesome player especially at this level however i defiantly feel like he only cares about Money and then first team football......

My only hope is that his flippant comments were to deflect attention away form any possible move on the cards and that the comment about the rest of our squad being poor was a friendly jibe at future team mates?

The fact he said he would sign a deal if it was put in front of him and that we have not got him does not show great promise!

Can only hope...

I wathced Soccer AM this morning, and my opinion of him has not changed. Nice guy, wants to play football.

What has changed is the hope that I, along with many other Town fans, have held that maybe he fell in love with Town and wants to play here next year. I think he enjoyed those games, but they were more of a shop window than a try before you buy...

If we get him, brilliant, if he goes elsewhere he gets my blessing. He saved our season and he owes us nothing

We gave him the opportunity to resurrect his career . He has no agent, said he wanted to stay at ipswich, but doesn't know what is happening or doesn't hear who is after him or interested in him, i think the hull fans who spoke on this site got it spot on, jimmy will say whatever people want to hear but when it comes down to it he is only interested in the size of his pay packet. Jimmy knows exactly what is going on and where he will be next season, I would love to be wrong, bad enough narwich supporters gloating as it is without our player of the season joining them, He will go down in my opinion if he joins them.

So a hull player may go elsewhere? Big deal he owes us nothing but we owe him.

Didn't see the interview but the tone of the above wording would suggest that he wont be at Portman Road next season. That's a shame because he made a big difference this season, however I feel that if we did sign him he would spend half the time injured anyway. Time will tell but I cannot see him joining ITFC.

So what happened to the guy who was quoted to saying, along the lines of, 'if they (ITFC) put a contract in front of me now I'll sign it'? I presume his "love affair" with ITFC is now well and truly over!

Nonetheless, thanks for you efforts last season Jimmy and good luck in the future.

Ipswich weren't featured much except to say that he said that he only got the Player of the Season award because everyone else was poor. Spoke very highly of Norwich which Lambert is probably aware of now.
Personally, after that interview I think there is NO chance of him coming to us.
He did a great job for us last season. I think that he galvanised the team and without him we would have been relegated.

Ipswich [ for whatever reason ] haven't sorted out a deal with Hull for his services, so maybe he feels they won't, so he is hedging his bets ie, Hull don't want him, we haven't made a move [ probably hoping Hull will let him go on a free and playing a waiting game ] and in the mean time, he's putting himself back into the shop window as he doesn't want to be at Hull next season sitting on the bench [ I remember them saying they didn't want him playing for them anymore ]. Can you blame him for shopping around, especially as he doesn't have an agent working in the background so he is doing it in the open, which will attract attention.

dmotty17 -- i dont think we really want Sol, wherever he goes now it s for one last pay check...kuqi i agree, there s no reason he cant still do the biz, maybe not a starter all the time but his love for the club is legendary

To put it simply, Paul Jewell turned our season and he's still staying, right?

Jimmy Bullard wants to play football, he will play whoever gives him the best deal. Yes he has said in the past he loved it here and would sign a contract if it was in front of him. I have no doubt that he did love it here, I think the thing that annoyed most people yesterday, was that he didn't say he loved us, and would sign for us over anyone (Norwich).

Jimmy will sign for us, if there is no Premier League team intersted, and we can meet his wage demands.

oh well we can right him off for next season as well - a lot of transfer activity needs to be done just to get us up to a similar strength strating 11 never mind progressing from last season!

I'm sorry but i think we can all safely say that he won't be joining us next season. I mean if he wanted to join us he would of signed a deal with us already. Tbh guys i think it's probably a good desicion fo him i mean he's 32 he doesn't want to be with a team who won't really achieve much within a couple of seasons, and who would.
Just i wish him good luck he's done great for us this season, but he's not a massive loss to us. We should start at looking at bringing young fit players in and buliding from the bottom without splashing the cash like NC did. Might take us a couple of seasons probs longer but this club needs to start thinking about what will benifit our club in the future.

its clear we are still a total shambles and i agree with some of the above posts, but we need a clear out from the top down to stop this madness at our football club before all hope is lost!!!!!

very funny blue badger, but you look silly as a lot of problems behind the scenes are Cleggs down to Clegg.

choprawontcome - your'e right, we are a shambles throughout the Club - unfortunately the Carrot Road Clan are showing us how a Club should be run on all fronts. And that really hurts.

What amazes me is some of these 'super optimists' who plainly do not see the mess we are clearly embroiled in.

If ever there was a 'ship without a Captain and Crew ' - here it is.

The club must know how frustrating sagas like these are to the fans.

Presuming the club know by now that a deal can't be done, it would be good PR if they released a statement to that effect to stop all the speculation.

By the way, if Bullard managed to negotiate that deal at Hull without representation, he always has a long and successful career ahead as a football agent ahead.

Norwich will need him, having seen them get hammered at Swansea on the Football League show the other week. Straight back down, even with Jimmy Bullard.
