Town Linked With Move for Watford's Sordell
Town Linked With Move for Watford's Sordell
Tuesday, 12th Jul 2011 06:27

Town are set to offer Watford £800,000 for striker Marvin Sordell, according to a report this morning. Yesterday, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that he had made bids for a striker and a winger.

Sordell, 20, was an academy schoolboy with Fulham before moving on to Watford’s youth set-up. Having spent time on loan at Wealdstone and Tranmere, the 5ft 10in tall frontman broke through into the Hornets senior side in 2009/10.

But it was last season when the England U20s cap really started to make his mark in the Championship, scoring 15 goals in 29 starts and 18 sub appearances.

Town fans will remember the Brent-born frontman for scoring Watford’s second goal in the Blues’ 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road last season and also for netting a hat-trick in an FA Youth Cup victory over Town at Portman Road in March 2009.

Elsewhere, the Blues are reported to have made an increased offer to Doncaster for midfielder James Coppinger, the subject of at least one previous bid earlier in the summer.

Paul Jewell recently said that he could make renewed attempts sign the 30-year-old having failed with an initial £300,000 offer early in the summer when he also tried to land Rovers striker Billy Sharp.

Maynard has only a year left on his contract and has yet to sign the new one offered. would go for him as well and try to off load Priskin and Scotland

Karlos - Leicester have already had a failed attempt to sign Maynard so if they failed then they must want a fair bit! I would rather Sordell, he the man!

I agree with nearly everything that has been said on here so far.
Except the lunatic who suggested 4 mill for Bullard, good player yes but don't spunk all the cash on a croc who showed his true colours on soccer AM
And also stop moaning about a lack of a target man, if you Want the style of football that a target man encourges dig out some old Wimbledon or Cambridge it'd vids from the early 90s.

Paulc: I could not agree more. £4M for 32 year old Bullard? No way!!

£4M for Coppinger and Sharpe. Now that sounds like a much better deal.

Also agree that we should offload Priskin. He couldn't hit a cows ar$e with a banjo!!

So if we have not put a bid in who is the striker that Jewell is waiting to hear about then

village_blue added 12:37 - Jul 12
Wait for it! Lets hope if we get him he's better value for money than the last Watford striker we signed.Priskin seems to take a lot of flack from certain supporters who only see a striker as a goal scoring machine. If supporters looked at the wider angle you would want a skillful player who can link with others and given the chance with the right players around him Priskin can do this.

Go get him, outshone Wickham in youth cup a few years ago, very pacy and a decent finish. Good future prospect

Saw the FA Youth Cup game and he was fantastic, on that particular day he was better than Wickham. His 3 goals were quality, with 1 being similar to Kanu's 3rd against Chelsea for Arsenal when he chipped it in from an impossible angle.

Get Him

Wickham scored 9 goals, 6ft3in, strong, and was only 17, I know who I'd rather have. We need a target man with some strength, since we sold the only one we had!! For me, Wickham being sold will only be justifiable if we sign Bullard.

^^unjustifiable then

Garv - you have the mentality that i find fustrating. Your being very narrow minded. Can your mind not expand beyond the realms of Ipswich? We don't just have to sign what we know and have seen beforehand. There are other good players beyond Bullard. He was good when he was here and would be great to have back. But he's 32 and on an incredibly high wage. Plenty of young, hungry talent out there.

your comment is also totally contradictory...."we need a target man with some strength" yet the only thing that would justify Wickham's sale is signing Bullard who is neither...

@radlettblue

Watford would never in the right minds take priskin back!

Garv added 14:36 - Jul 12
Well obviously Bullard isn't a striker or any kind of target man, I meant that in the sense of using the high fee for wickham on Bullard who as you say is expensive. The target man is to replace Wickham, pretty obvious I thought.

Sordell could be a useful acquisition although as others have suggessted he does lack height. He took his chance well v Ipswich last October however we were very square with four centre backs and our marking was slack.

Good as he is we need a tall taret man as a different option...Rory Fallon anyone?

ideal scenario woud be to get sordellfor cash and chuck in priskin aswel! so that we could offload him.
to be honest i wouldnt mind if he stayed anyway.

(Foster) "martin,edwards or carson,bowyer,whittingham,coppinger
sordell,chops "

the team you have mentioned along with Rory Fallon as (Scuzzor writes).

I thought he shoud have been given more of a chance but with our new players and our own talent it is a great prospect makes the mouth water....
I think things are shaping up quite nicely remember we only had 1/2 a season under PJ see what he can do with the new and existing talent we have at PR…in a season and also the shake down of staff and players who were not happy have all gone so nothing but positive Vibes in the dressing room and on the training pitch….I think we could be in for a season to remember…will we be promoted?? We have a really good chance barring injuries we have a squad to be reckoned with anyone coming to PR will be a little more uncomfortable… tatty Byee!!!

"Don't really know who this guy is! I hope we sign Coppinger"

Really, Jas0999 ??
A regular scorer in the Championship, one of Watford's main young guns (Sordell is probablythe best of the bunch) who made them one of last season's surprise packages?

I'm surprised at your ignorance of our division!
But then I remembered you were a VERY staunch supporter of Roy Keane's management skills, so it kinda makes sense ;-)
