Bullard's Hull Contract Terminated
Bullard's Hull Contract Terminated
Thursday, 18th Aug 2011 12:58

Hull City have announced the termination of former Town loanee Jimmy Bullard’s contract in the wake of his suspension for an alleged indiscretion which took place during the Tigers’ pre-season trip to Slovenia. The 32-year-old, the Blues’ Player of the Year during a hugely successful loan spell last season, has not played for the club he joined from Fulham for £5 million in 2009 this season.

Hull chief executive Mark Maguire said in a statement that Bullard’s £45,000-a-week contract, which had two years left to run and made up 21% of the Tigers’ wage bill, is to be terminated: “I can confirm that the club has given notice to terminate the contract of Jimmy Bullard.

“Mr Bullard has a right of appeal and it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time that might prejudice this process.

“The club will continue to focus on the development and performance of the squad going forward and is concentrated on efforts to deliver a positive season on and off the pitch for the Tigers.

“We respect that there will be significant interest in this matter but will continue to act with professionalism and at all times in the best interests of the club.”

It's understood the termination means Bullard will receive nothing of what remains on his contract, the move effectively constituting his sacking by the Tigers.

While the Blues were interested in signing the midfielder earlier in the summer, boss Paul Jewell has said on a number of occasions that the deal would be beyond Town's finances, although whether this would still be the case now that Bullard's situation has changed remains to be seen.

However, QPR are also understood to be strongly interested in signing the former Peterborough and Wigan man and would appear to be the favourites for his signature, unless the takeover which was announced earlier today has led to them look elsewhere for midfield additions.

All good/great players are slightly off the wall - Gazza & Maradona to name 2 - all I know is that we will stand a much better chance of promotion if we sign him up..don't think we should break the bank though.

I'm no contractual lawyer, but I would have thought that to have his contract terminated Hull would have to have similiar grounds in terms of severity that Chelsea did when they got rid of Mutu. Wondering whether he could launch an appeal for full recompense if he immediately signed for someone else, bit like sacked managers waiting until things are sorted like Curbishley did.

Recent performances show that we neeeeeed a creative midfielder our midfielders have been a bunch of pedestrians in all games so far. if this club really has premiership aspirations and if jewell really has the complete backing of mr evans then surely we should at least attempt to sign him up!

Well nobody will sign him until this dispute is over. What if Jim goes to Court and wins do Hull take him back even though he signed for somebody else????? Hull know that and want to force him to say he won't challenges them in court, but we all know Jimmy will as money is the only thing which interests him.

JB is certantly not a trouble maker, he is a class act and if there is any chance whatsoever ITFC should sign him ASAP

Howver how can hull just terminate his contract? Unless he has done something sackable they will be taken to the cleaners by JB`s very expensive Barrister who bizzarly hull are paying for

Agree with the above. Whilst we're not sure of the incident details surely there's a good chance he'll appeal against this and presumably he wouldn't be able to sign for another club until an appeals process is complete.

Who knows how long that would take and going by some of the appeals of managers who have been sacked it could take a very long time.

This could be the fastest way for Hull to deal with the issue. He is not going to play for them again anyway. Sacking him makes him a free agent. He then signs up with someone else and sues Hull. Hull have to pay compensation BUT the compensation will probably be limited to the financial loss he has suffered if there are contributory factors. So the net result is that by sacking him they may actually save money compared to a protracted negotiation where they are paying £45k a week because this way he and his agent get off their backsides and sort out a deal faster than if it was a normal negotiated exit.

Nothing has changed for you guys. You still have to find some of the £45k he was on at the KC. If you think £20k will get him, dream on.

Must say we are all glad to see the back of him but I doubt it is over for us, but at least he is no longer part of the Club. Now it's a legal matter between Bullard and the owners and I hope we now move on and sue him for damages.

I know you all love him to bits, BUT BE WARNED, he aint the hero a lot of you think he is. We were warned by the Fulham fans and ignored it. Don't make the same mistake and give this guy a wide berth.

I was in Hull last Saturday for a family do as the wife is originally from there. We had the pleasure of listening to the games on the radio with several Hull fans which was not much fun :-( They seem to suggest that on recent pre season tour he broke a curfew and came back to the hotel steaming drunk and let of 2 fire extinguishers. He was confronted by one of the coaches and proceeded to tell him that once he left Hull he would come back and f*** him up. Whether this is true or not I dont know but the Hull fans should know roughly what went on.

@AmberAndBlack

No, there's nothing to say we are after Ibrahima Sonko, more likely Sonko is after us.

Hull contracted themselves to pay JB how much in addition to signing on fee? 45K a week?

Would be Nice to see more than 30-40% of wickams fee re-invested, i cant see issue financially in 2 defenders and bullard, easily less than 5.5 mil which is what is left of conners fee. Or evans is broke and the club has kept hush!!!!

Pay him a 'golden welcome' e.g. £2m and £20k per week for a two year contract. That's £4m over two years, sounds like a good deal for both parties.

ncharles - what planet are you on?

Are you Jimmys agent?

ozzydog added 14:24 - Aug 18
Just looking at the hull fans remarks and thinking of some other comments made by other hull fans.

Your club gave JB a massive contract without a relegation clause. There lies your problem,it is your own clubs fault, no one else.

JB came to ITFC was terrfic on and of the pitch and within a short while became our player of the year. Your club have acted and are now acting very foolishly and I suspect JB will take hull to the cleaners they deserve

Why would you want to pay him £2m 'golden welcome'?

Do you think we are sacking him on the grounds that he was awarded a ridiculous contract?

No, he is being sacked for gross misconduct.
