Owner Evans at Portman Road
Owner Evans at Portman Road

Town owner Marcus Evans was spotted at both Portman Road and at the Blues’ Playford Road training ground earlier today. Evans will probably have been meeting with chief executive Simon Clegg and manager Paul Jewell as the club looks to make more signings ahead of the closure of the transfer window next Wednesday.

Evans, unlikely to have been impressed with the Blues’ recent results, is very much hands-on in Town’s transfer business, which Clegg has described as a “three-person approach”.

The Blues are close to completing the addition of free agent Ibrahima Sonko, while Town’s attempt to sign former loanee Jimmy Bullard on a permanent basis is also likely to have been high on the agenda.

TWTD understands that the Blues, QPR and Portsmouth are the main contenders for the midfielder’s signature in the wake of his contract at Hull being terminated with Town very much in with a chance of bringing last season’s Player of the Year back to Portman Road.

Yesterday, Town boss Jewell revealed that an offer had been made to a Premier League club regarding a central defender but no news is likely on that front until the manager’s pre-match press conference on Thursday morning.

I'm Spartacus!

No, but seriously, if we got Sonko and Bullard on the same day, it'd be the best double signing I've ever seen at Portman Road.

Of course the current situation has more to do with Keane than Jewell. Keane left us with a poor performing but massively paid goalkeeper, no left back under 35, no decent centre backs with McAuley out of contract, no right back, no defensive midfielder with bite, no creativity in midfield and no quality strikers. I think Jewell is a good manager, but he is not a miracle worker and can't turn that round with a click of his fingers and £3M! Give him time (and money) and I think Jewell will slowly repair the damage Keane inflicted on our club.

Daley, are you actually mental? You seem obsessed with the fact Marcus Evans isn't a real person. He definitely is. I know two people who work for his main business. The images widely published after a game last season is what he looks like. . . . .

Please stop fawning its embarrassing. The fact that he is at the ground is considered newsworthy ... I think that says something.

It says, I am a real person, but don't need my face in print every five minutes like a lot of these other nancy boys in football right now ! Marcus Evans does what he does, the way he wants to do it and that should be enough for all of us. Do we really want to know what the guy has for breakfast ? Talk football !!!!
