Fans Re-United to Help Save Plymouth
Fans Re-United to Help Save Plymouth

Fans of clubs across the country are being asked to help out supporters of crisis club Plymouth Argyle in their hour of need. League Two Argyle, where Blues midfielder Jamie Griffiths is currently on loan, are in danger of going out of business with players and staff not having been paid in full for some months.

The Pilgrims’ home game against Macclesfield on Saturday 24th September has been declared Fans Re-United Day by Brighton supporters, keen to help out another club in return for the assistance they received from followers of teams around the country during their darkest hours at the end of the 1990s.

Back in 1997 the Seagulls staged the first ever Fans United Day when supporters of clubs, including Town, came along to their home game against Hartlepool United wearing their side’s colours to give them their backing and help raise funds.

To find out more about Fans Re-United Day, which coincides with Town’s visit to Middlesbrough, there is a Facebook page, while more details can be found here and here.

In addition, the Green Taverners are asking fans of other clubs to raise funds by auctioning football memorabilia here.

The latest details of the situation at Home Park can be found here, while Plymouth’s main forum PASOTI can be found here.

FatBoy.

As I said in the forum's, I very much doubt Griffiths is on at the most 500 a week. Plymouth are possibly paying us by giving him 1st team football experience, which I am sure is at a higher level than our reserve games (when we actually play them). So I feel we are being paid to help educate a player of ours, that possibly otherwise would only be training daily, by playing him in there 1st team.

Who helped us when we were in administration? All the best to Plymouth and their fans, but where to draw the line? Fact is - as we know - years of mis-management and spending above your means, will ultimately end in disaster.

Wages have gone mad! Agree with Lightening boy on previous page, time for some Prem players to contribute a bit. After all, a hundred grand to them is like a fiver or tenner to us. I manage to pay an rspb membership on my fairly limited budget so why can't some of them help?

There's a difference between going into administration and facing bankruptcy. Administration is primarily about restructuring debt, which bankruptcy is more... Heeeeeeeeeeelp!

I for one will be looking to see what I can do to help - Argyle were my Grandad's club, and he would be spinning in his grave about now. He took me to see them when I were a lad, and I saw Paul Mariner play whilst he was still with them, so they are my second team. Really hope they get things sorted.

Having read this thread and then gone onto look on the Plymouth fansite makes sobering reading. The reality is that this situatioj could happen to ANY club, with the probable exception of the Prem League big boys, Whoever is to blame it is not the average fan who cares about the club, at all levels of the game people are being priced out of attending and it seems a season ticket at Plymouth is not exactly a wise investment as there are very real fears that the club could fold any week.

All fans should get behind this, whether fan power alone can save a club is a matter of opinion, however highlighting the plight is something which needs maximum publicity, lets get some of those who take the most from the game we all grew up loving, to give something back. Imagine the top 100 earners being prepared to donate £20k - what a start that would be.
