Duo Could Return
Duo Could Return
Monday, 5th Sep 2011 15:26

Midfielder Lee Bowyer and defender Ívar Ingimarsson could be back in contention for Saturday’s visit to Blackpool. Bowyer has been out with a hamstring problem since the Southampton home game, while Ingimarsson has been sidelined with a thigh injury sustained in pre-season which has limited the Icelander to only one appearance, the 3-0 opening day win at Bristol City.

Manager Paul Jewell says the duo are closing in on a return: “Lee has been with the physio and the fitness coach for the last two and a half weeks and has joined in with training with the first team for the first time this morning.

"Ívar has obviously been out for a while with a thigh injury and he'll come back into training tomorrow after working with the physio a lot recently.

"Since Ívar has been here, it has been stop-start so from his point of view he is raring to get going.”

"Everyone is in contention for Saturday and if they are fit then they will be considered for selection."

Tommy Smith will be back from his one-game ban, but Lee Martin, who was red-carded at Peterborough along with Smith, still has two matches of his three-game suspension left to serve.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who suffered an ankle injury in Town’s win against Leeds, is also expected to be back in training tomorrow and ought be OK for the weekend, while Blackpool should have midfielder Elliot Grandin available again after a foot problem.

With the exception of Edwards that is a very strong Championship side Surco72, real strength in every position. Having Ingimarsson and Sonko at the back will give the midfield the confidence to play, while playing alongside Bullard, Bowyer and Andrews should bring the best out the enigma that is JET. The 4-5-1 you suggested could also easily be a 442 with Murphy partnering Chops and Bowyer and JET in the wide roles. PJ needs time to gel all these individuals together but when he does we will be real contenders

Shotton's playing (and scoring) at Stoke so can't see him going out on loan now.

no chance of shotton coming -- very highly rates by stoke and in their 25, coming on as sub in bits and pieces. Collins will do nicely

Will be tough for both to get back in the side. Although Bowyer for Leadbitter maybe? Also depends on how match fit Ingimarsson is.

Jas0999 - excellent post. The first one by you for ages that didn't have a veiled swipe at PJ included. Things really must be looking up. :-)

Well not THAT excellent. Tough to get back in side? What, you mean tough to dislodge Leadboots and Delaney??? Hello??? I know a week is a long time in football as well as politics but has the blessed sponge of amnesia wiped away the events at London Rd already???!!!

If these two play on Saturday won't it interfere with their dominoes match in the British legion club that night

Christ - just when jas0999 stops being negative, all the other moaning miseries come out to play. What a well supported club we are.

London Road is in the past; we now have a genuine CB in Sonko, Inge is fit (hopefully), Jimmy is back to wreak havoc in the middle + Andrews is fit and playing well. Murphs will give us a great option up front to hold ball up if under pressure. Murphs also gives us an ariel threat we lacked on crosses and will also be inportant when defending set pieces.

I also agree that the Physio will be vital to us this season.

RB is the glaring problem. Personally I would prefer to see "Sparky" Kennedy play RB. Although a leftie, he has experience, leadership qualities, reads the game well and defends better than Carlos. With Martin banned, Carlos is a great option from the bench to cover RB and wide positions.
