Jewell Admits Not Many Pluses
Jewell Admits Not Many Pluses

Town boss Paul Jewell admitted that it was difficult to see too many pluses - other than there being plenty of the season still to go and another game at Burnley on Tuesday - after the Blues’ 3-2 defeat to Reading at Portman Road on Saturday, with the club in what he called “a dark place”.

Jewell said: “The pluses I can take are that there are 29 games left and we’ve got a game on Tuesday.

“It’s very difficult at the moment for Ipswich Town people to see any pluses, it’s a dark place we’re in at the minute.

“We have to get out of it, no one’s going to help us out, we have to fight and scrap and try and get a result from somewhere that turns us around.

“It’s not going to be a vintage performance from us at the moment, we’re going to have to nick a win. We should have nicked two wins out of the last two games and the whole table would have looked rosy. We know we’re making it difficult for ourselves.”

The increasingly under pressure boss told his players to start preparing for Tuesday’s trip to Turf Moor straight after the game: “What I’ve said to them is that we’ve got to go again on Sunday.

“Everybody’s culpable, people have got jobs to do, ie picking up people from set plays, and in the last two games they haven’t done them.

“There’s not too much to say other than we’re frustrated, we’ve got to start again on Sunday and look forward to the game on Tuesday because in football there’s no hiding place. You can’t run away from it, it’s there, it’s life and as low as I feel at the moment, I’ll face the music.”

What a load on moaners on here. Hopefully we can soon get a couple of wins so all the happy positive people can begin to post again without being vilified by the negatives

It's clear to see that the situation at our club is not good. Maybe it comes from the top or the manager or the players, but anyone who went to the game on Saturday can tell you that whilst we were attacking we looked more likely to get something, but as soon as the changes were made we just screwed up.
I backed Keane and everyone else before them, but how long do we have to put up with this.......................? The formation and players have let in to many goals and Wrighty did a good job in goal and never stopped shouting at the players but it's PJ team and his formations and can anyone on here really say that we Peterborough should be better than us in a game, Doncaster that well known quality side.... my point is that at times you need to get a grip and PJ needs to get a grip or get a ticket out of town. I have to say Norwich who have had less money than us, but bigger crowds have proven what can be done. who remembers the last local derby...... enough said!

Well said bluenut. You have hit the nail on the head. The money ME brought into the club certainly saved Town but the money made available to Managers has been very poorly spent, especially by the present incumbent. Mr.Jewell really isn't a very good manager, as proven by his time at Derby and Sheff Wed. And as for his assistant, well he really doesn't have a clue. People are still blaming Keane for the mess that we are in. It goes back longer than that I'm afraid and has been made even worse by the duffers that Jewell has brought in. I make it 14 now! Is it really Keanes fault. I think not....

I hate to say this but Norwich had bigger crowds in the season they were relegated to the 1st Division. Perhaps the recession is making people choose more carefully where they spend their hard earned cash?

Tiggs What makes you such an authority to slate PJ and his assistance. The last 3 defeats are simply down to defenders giving forwards free headers, simple as that. No need to pillory everyone as to why we are where we are, simply down to the players on the pitch not defending well enough.

Two goals a game will normally enough to win most matches. Sort the central defence out ASAP

Jas 0999 can anyone think of a time when we have lost 5 in arow in the second tier of English football? Yes less than a year ago.
Derby 0-2
Barnsley 1-3
Hull 0-1
Norwich 1-4
Swansea 1-3
Preston 0-1

So still one game to go for PJ to equal this abysmal record. Maybe your memory is not so good because at that time you were the one watching with rose couloured spectacles.

Your hatred for PJ from the very start makes your comments pretty redundant.

Having said that things do need to improve and fast, hopefully we make get a snow blizzard like the game against Leicester which stopped our terrible run last year!!

we have got a strong squad, collins, sonko, bullard, andrews, chopra, emanuel thomas, we have some big names in there, we have spend so much money probably not that much less than leicester, do you see them at the top? at the end of the day im behind jewell and the players to turn this around, i still have the faith, we are only7points off the playoffs with over half a season left, all we can do guys is get behind them because bitching about them wont help!!!

I fear so much for the burnley game,we are like a rabbit caught in headlights at the moment,i hope my 2 days in burnley will not be in vain,if P.J.can get us a few results in b4 xmas then i think we will be ok,but he needs 2 listen 2 the fans that know when it comes 2 getting the players in who will turn this club around..but 2 away games over xmas is a disgrace..but if we are in the bottom 3 at xmas then he might aswell pack his bags....ipswich till we die..

I agree with fourth.

We need Sonko. And let's restart by getting back to the basics.....especially proper marking and taking precautions to preserve a lead. Surely the experience is there. Let's go out and beat Burnley!

The way I see things is we were on such a good run of form before the 1st international break, something has gone seriously wrong from then on. We had what seemed terrific team spirit in the side with Jimmy jumping on people and players delighted when we scored. That has all disaperaed if you remember we kept a settled side for six games in a row and before anyone says anything I know there have been injuries but it is no coincidence that when doing well the injuries are not there. PJ is always blaming everyone apart from himself what on earth is going on at the training ground do we not learn to defend as a team? And as soon as something goes against us in a game whether its a missed chance or a decision that goes against us we collapse which goes to show there is no togetherness or fighting spirit in that team. I think it certaintly does not help with so many ols players and loanees in the squad there is no long term commitment here. The younger players probably then start to rebel because they are not been given a chance, eg Hyam,Murray and O'Connor. WE need to get in younger, quicker and stronger players who have the hunger and desire to improve and play for ITFC. Yes we needed experience in the summer but that could of been a few old heads mixed in with good youngsters. I want PJ to succeed but I have noticed the long ball game come back like we played under Keane I do not want to see my team playing this way it is not football sort it out PJ and Evans before its too late.
