Reading Keeper to Sign Three-Month Deal by Wednesday
Reading Keeper to Sign Three-Month Deal by Wednesday
Sunday, 8th Jan 2012 20:20

Reading keeper Alex McCarthy will join the Blues on a three-month loan in time to make his debut at Birmingham on Wednesday, TWTD understands. Contrary to earlier reports, the deal is not yet done but it appears that only formalities are left to be completed.

McCarthy confirmed his move on Twitter, also commenting on the quality of the accommodation Town had put him in: "Hotel is decent, better than what I thought, time for sleep now. Night tweeps!

"[...]finished loan at Leeds last week. At Ipswich now!"

Manager Paul Jewell has previously said that the Blues are keen on signing an additional glovesman to compete with Arran Lee-Barrett and Richard Wright, former loanee David Stockdale having been recalled by Fulham last month.

Guildford-born 6ft 4in-tall England U21 cap McCarthy came through the Royals’ youth system and has had prior loan spells at Woking, Cambridge United, Team Bath, Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town and Brentford in addition to a six-game spell at Leeds in November and December last year.

Meanwhile, Neil Warnock’s sacking by QPR has already led to speculation that the former Sheffield United boss may be the man to succeed Paul Jewell at Town if and when owner Marcus Evans decides on making a change.

Warnock, who was linked with the Blues after Jim Magilton’s exit, knows Evans and had praise for the club when speaking after Town’s defeat at Loftus Road in February: “The club’s very stable, there are good people behind [Paul], Marcus is a good person to work for.

“And the fans down there, bloody hell, they’re second to none, aren’t they? It’s a great opportunity for everybody down there.”

Jewell got Bradford and Wigan up so why is he different to Warnock
-------------------------

Cause Warnock has looked good for several years now, whereas PJ has looked sh*te.

Warnock has been promoted as much as anyone and has evolved with football as it changes. Paul Jewell is a clueless twerp now whatever he has done in the past. I'm also really glad we got rid of Jordan Rhodes (admit it cleggyboy), what a useless striker he turned out to be.

I agree with you Mark. We are still operating on a short term basis. We must start to rebuild on a priority basis.

Ok, so this is the loan signing, who is the permanent one?

well done! bring in another keeper on loan, that'll sort out the fact we can't defend or score goals.

And why do so many blame Clegg? Surely he sorts out the deals for the players PJ says he wants!

The future is bleak!

Collins would cost at least £1m and even with him in the side we couldnt win so why do people think it would be any different.

Up against Birmingham who have one of the best defensive records. Where will our next win come from?

Do feel that with a bit of organisation and tactical nouse that we could at least compete in the league. Sadly I belive jewell and his buddies haven't got that. For gods sake, McCarthy was coaching a non league side.

A big week coming up.

Reading like Fulham with Stockdale want there kepper to plenty of get plenty of practice in and go back to Reading a better kepper, he will not be short of work in front of our defence.
What i do not understand is if Warnock knows Marcus Evans, why the Supporters of his club do not know who he is.

Sign two c/halfs and two fullbacks or we are going down
We may have to have loan players because I cannot see any good player signing up on a 3 year deal with the chance he may play in Div one ne3xt season

Keeper is not going to stop us shipping goals by the bucket load, ironically.

We had England's number 3 and still couldn't stop them going in.

Lee-Barret will do fine with a decent defence in front of him.

Joe Hart wouldn't help us right now.

I wasn't sure if sacking Jewell was the answer up until now (new manager, new set of players, etc. etc.) but if Warnock is genuinely interested in coming to ITFC then Evans has to jump at the chance. Like Keane before Jewell just isn't working and there's a real danger of relegation. Get the change made in the next week and Warnock has half the month to wheel and deal. If anyone can take us back to the Premier League it's him! Unlikely I know but I can dream! I just want to see us playing well, picking up some decent points and feeling proud to support this great club again.

Same old madness, why do we keep signing keepers if we just had a couple of decent defenders we would not have to worry so much or do we go home after every game thinking wow we played well, if it was not for our keeper we would have won that?????.

As for Warnock yup he played one season of pretty football with QPR in the championship(with a shed load of cash) but does everyone forget the nasty teams he put together for Sheffield United year on year. Who here remembers the play off against Sheffield, with a team full of cheats like Chris Morgan.

Lets get back to building a team that plays real team football and not another manager that can only buy success, as look where that has got us.

If a permanent deal for the central defender isn't done within the next few days PJ can be assumed to be dead in the water.

As with Keane the sign that he was a goner was no money forthcoming for further spending. It makes no sense to give PJ spending money and then sack him within the next few weeks. So if he make some permanent signings in the days ahead, he is here to stay for a while yet.

GET WARNOCK IN!!!!

I hope this goalkeeper can command his area, fed up with them dancing on the goal line when a cross/corner comes in, Get out and get the ball as our c/halfs will not. Half the time if a goalkeeper comes out he will get a free kick anyway.

Neil Warnock would be excellent for Ipswich Town. A top class manager with a proven track record. Thoroughly unlucky/hard done by to be fired by QPR having got them promoted in the first place.

I don't get why this is a 3 month loan deal. He'll be gone by Easter. Can the loan be extended come April? Anyone know the regulations?
