Swindon Make Murray Offer
Swindon Make Murray Offer
Friday, 13th Jan 2012 08:57

Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio says his club have made Town an offer to sign on-loan striker Ronan Murray on a permanent basis. The Irishman's spell on loan at the County Ground is up on Saturday.

Di Canio said: “I want to buy him and the offer is a fair amount of money because he is a young, talented player.

“If we can go through with the money we have offered already we will be very happy and he is happy here. We will see after the Rotherham game [on Saturday].”

Speaking earlier in the week when a further loan was mooted, Murray said he'd like to extend his time in Wiltshire: “I’d like to stay. I am playing first team football and the last month and a half has been brilliant - playing games every week.

“I have enjoyed every minute and it is a brilliant club. There are not many more clubs in the country you would want to be at with all the headlines Swindon are getting."

The 20-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has scored two goals in four starts and five sub appearances since joining the Robins in November.

Sell a 3rd promising young striker in as many years, that sounds like a good way to keep the fan base happy!!

Now listen Clegg and PJ, he is another young bright player that we own, if you do sell him make sure you have these clauses???? buy back, funds after 20 goals scored, 35% sell on clause, funds after international appearence and finally succesive promotion funds too. They cant have him for nothing or lose change.

Last point thought we did not have to sell, unless there is another debt that has been found other than the ground rent?????

Whether he stays or goes, he's likely to be playin League One football next season.

Think we should keep the player but it may not be down to the club.

If I was Murray I would have to ask the question would I be picked in front of Chopra and Scotland and would I get on the bench before Jet.

Or

Could I be playing week in and week out with Swindon

Wage wise i bet Swindon would be paying wages to cost on what he is on now.

alanmason_and why is the Academy not producing the young players? I'll tell you why - Keane got rid of one (if not the best) youth coaches in English football. Has it not been noticed how Tottenham are making great strides in the Premiership now? Coincidence or not - I don't think it is!! Sammy Morgan IMO is not up to the task here - we are no longer attracting the top talent as we were under Bryan Klug cos we are not held in the same esteem. ONLY if we opt for Category 1 status is there any chance of changing things in the near future.

For goodness sake! Was a time when we produced stars & had them playing here for a few years before having to sell them on IE. Darren Bent, Richard Wright, Kieron Dyer, etc. Now we seem to sell them before they're even in our starting line-up! Lets keep him for another season, if he fails then a second division side will still buy him, but if he succeeds then happy days all round! We're taking youngsters on loan from other clubs, whilst sending ours out on loan? Lets just try our own kids!

This is the icing on the cake for me. If they sell him I'm out till the clowns in charge are removed. I'm totally peed off with the way this club is being run. What hope for the future. Its getting so each day we sink lower and lower into the poop and I cant see a way out while clown and Jewell are here

Punchnohopers-if you read back in November, Murray was spoken to about a contract along with 3 others.
The reality is he may be playing in the same division as ITFC if he signs for a winning team.

Just watch our short sighted management and owners think "corrr, that is a fair amount of money that we could receive, let's sell" when actually he is someone that this club should be looking to keep and bring into the squad. Ala Jordan Rhodes.

With the way Murray keeps being shipped on loan by Jewell, and not played when he is here, I don't see him staying which would be a crying shame.

Do a Reading - sign him onto a longer contract, allow him to stay at Swindon on loan until the summer and get him back in the summer, hungry, lean and ready to step up. Letting his contract run out would be insane, especially if he's doing well at Swindon. After all, we could find we need him if we're in League One next season.

From his point of view it would be a good move because he doesn't get any games playing for us.

Sad

to me looking back with hindsight(yes i know hindsight blah blah)but when you say something like LONG TERM PLAN that says to me that your going to do something with foundation.i believe a good percentage of town fans are concerned about the way our youngsters have been brushed aside in favour of a lets get to the top now attitude.when jim magilton was in charge (not so long ago!)we were talking about a possible couple of signings to enhance what we already had.keano (bless him) did play some of our best youngsters but then they seemed to play well then disappear for what ever reason.i've read what a lot of fans have said about jamie peters.the guy is a striker by trade but as english football dictates "he is fast put him on the wing"the strikers we have had in the past few years have restricted our options because they are not capable of running in behind defenders e.g. darren bent, david johnson. and i remember last season his only goal was taken superbly well.come on mr jewell, we are always being told what talent we've got but seem scared to use.these guys should be the foundation of the LONG TERM PLAN!get murray back here now and we had better start talking to him with a view to being in the starting line up or us fans will be cursing another loss of unused talent.i'm not to concerned about leaving the older guys out to give these young'ns a shot. i'm sure lee martin would like to play along side some players who could actually keep up with him.for me this should have been the situation as mr jewell as had more than enough time to look at what we've got before the season started.i think we need to start now before we become league one and all our good'uns bugger off some where else..... Sell Jewell!!! Then get another over 30 player in his place. Ronan and players like him should be the future of the club, but not under the present leadership of Clegg, Jewell and Hutchings, non of which have a clue. Look at the age of the Palace players and the progress they are making. Please change thing Mister Evans before it really is too late. Where we are now is a mirror image of what happened at Norwich. Difference will be that we won't bounce back when the inevitable happens.

Better than getting a fee, surely Swindon has some old donkey that Murray is keeping out of the starting eleven that Clegg could drag over here and payment, or better yet, get Swindon to loan us another player. Surely we will find out down the road that Clegg is a secret agent for the enemy, he can't possibly be this disconnected to what his job entails.

Please don't accept the offer! Ellington's not on loan cos no one wants him! But that doesn't excuse having Murray out on loan while Ellington comes off the bench regularly. I'd rather have young players coming through and struggle than have a bunch of journeymen do the same.

The last fat scouser here at least gave youth a chance.

spanisharcher - agreed, would rather see Murray come off the bench rather than Ellington, who's had his chances at this level. We need players hungry for success, not those brought in under the old pals act, just seeing out the remainder of their playing days. Unfortunately though, if Murray has any sense, he'll try to make a name for himself elsewhere, as he won't be given any chances here under the current management. Wonder if Matt Holland was approached whether he'd like to have a go at management......

If we can have Matt Ritchie in exchange I would take that all day long

Best of luck to him. Far too young to play in a PJ side - perhaps in 15 years. IMO MILES better than Ellington - plus played well alongside Scotland against Preston towards the end of last season - but sadly in that game was taken off so PJ could revert back to a negative 4-5-1 against a team who had already been relegated. Yet another poor decision, which very nearly cost us the win!
