Swindon Make Murray Offer
Swindon Make Murray Offer
Friday, 13th Jan 2012 08:57

Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio says his club have made Town an offer to sign on-loan striker Ronan Murray on a permanent basis. The Irishman's spell on loan at the County Ground is up on Saturday.

Di Canio said: “I want to buy him and the offer is a fair amount of money because he is a young, talented player.

“If we can go through with the money we have offered already we will be very happy and he is happy here. We will see after the Rotherham game [on Saturday].”

Speaking earlier in the week when a further loan was mooted, Murray said he'd like to extend his time in Wiltshire: “I’d like to stay. I am playing first team football and the last month and a half has been brilliant - playing games every week.

“I have enjoyed every minute and it is a brilliant club. There are not many more clubs in the country you would want to be at with all the headlines Swindon are getting."

The 20-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has scored two goals in four starts and five sub appearances since joining the Robins in November.

Don't let him go before you find out if he is anygood. Can't we learn anything from the Rhodes debacle?

His contract runs out at the end of the season, either bring him back and play him and give him a new contract or sell him now and get a few quid. My preference would be for the former and play him up front along side Scotland or JET. Next years striking options look very sparse if Scotland goes, hopefully NE goes just leaves us with Chopra and JET so lets build now.

Iv seen Murray play youth International soccer and he is a very quick and sharp striker. He has good feet and is a very good finisher. He can also play in the wide channels up front. He is quite small, maybe a little light weight but he has the aggression. He would hold his own against most Champ defenders and his pace would cause problems.
A team with Murray, Carson and Martin would add real pace to the attack. When added to Bowyer & Bullard pulling the strings from midfield it could have much promise.

the lad was described as 'the best finisher in the club' so is this going to be jewell's "rhodes" moment?

We might as well scrap the Youth system if we are gonna buy has beens like Ellington and get rid of young, hungry, talented strikers like Murray.

Ellington was awful against Hull at the weekend.

This piss poor management of resources must stop.

So Murray's contract is up at the end of the season and we haven't offered him a new contract, sounds like he's clearly available to other clubs and doesn't feature in Jewell's plans, so they will sell him in the window rather than let him leave for nothing at the end of the season.

Some might disagree, but personally I actually believe Di Canio would be a good appointment to replace Jewell when he goes!

Don't think he is in the class of Rhodes who was scoring goals for the reserves whilst at Town for fun and if it wasn't for the Clown Keane we would have him here now scoring for us!
I do feel that Town should keep him though and offer him a contract even if they don't want to use him this season. He can always be loaned back to Swindon for the rest of the year. Would rather see him on our bench or starting than Ellington or to be honest JET (who IMO has bags of skill accompanied with very little effort or end result).
Give him a new contract PJ and play or loan him back.

we will need the likes of him in league one next year chopra et al will be off as we won't afford the wages at that level! watched him years ago with wickham up front, fast worries defences and knows where back of net is, not sentiment but fact he us good enough and needs to be on the bench for us every week being brought on to mix it up a bit.

He should stay and it would be a huge disappointment if he goes.
I feel sure that we will live to regret it if we let him leave for a pittence.

with the obvious exception of Jordan Rhodes, it's difficult to name any young player that has recently left the club, and gone on to make it big anywhere else. The likes of Dyer, Bramble and Bent were all sold to big clubs, and we got decent fees for all of them, but I'm thinking of the promising youngsters we all worry about losing....little wonder the Academy is up for discussion, it's just not producing any long-term prospects.

Agree...AlanMason apart from Rhodes we haven't lost any golden nuggets..

BUT as a Town fan do you want to see Murray pressing the Blackpool defenders after coming on from the bench or Ellington going through the motions.

I know who I would choose.

Lets keep Murray and bring Di Canio here too. They can have PJ, tho doubt they would want him.
Jewell Out Now.

If he wont sign a new contract with ITFC what does that tell you?
Again another player that will run his contract down and go on a bossie as money is more important than status.
Another Billy Clarke IMO

Bring him back put him in squad. Get rid of ellington total waste of space. At least colin healy tried his best eventhough he wasnt good enough. We need to give murray time in the first team before we make a serious error. Then make a decision.

WTH? Yes some of the young players have been patchy but no less do than most signings and this is in no way unrelated to the paucity of the coaching and overall management over the past 4 seasons. Jewell seems to have a major blind spot where youngsters are concerned ( possibly because they prefer to play passing football rather than percentage slop?) and as lots have said rather Murray than Ellington, Carson than Murphy etc. At least give them a chance!

Essexnblue, how can he sign a new contract when we haven't offered him one!!

cornishnick added 11:22 - Jan 13
All depends how much doesn't it? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think he's quite up in the Rhodes/Wickham bracket. How much is "a fair amount of money"? £200k? £300k?

PunchNoHopers got it spot on in my opinion in stating, "the likes of Murray, Hyam, Carson, Whight, Peters... will become the future and our only hope ...to get us out of the division [i.e. League 1], once all the big names players have taken the club down and left, along with PJ!" Getting back to our roots, with a crop of young, hungry Academy players in a lower division almost sounds preferable to the situation we find ourselves in at present. But relegation is a dangerous route to go, with no guarantees we would come back up any time soon. Worrying times indeed. COYB!

If di Canio thinks Murray is that good, he's certainly worth us keeping.
