Town Watch Grimsby Striker Monday, 30th Jan 2012 09:59
Town were reportedly amongst a host of clubs represented at Grimsby’s Blundell Park on Saturday to catch Mariners’ striker Liam Hearn in action. West Brom, Crystal Palace, Portsmouth, Leeds and Scunthorpe United are also said to have been running the rule over the 26-year-old frontman.
Hearn joined Grimsby from Alfreton Town for £30,000 on a three-year deal in the summer and since then has scored 25 goals in 35 games, including 23 in 30 in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
The 5ft 11in tall frontman picked up the Blue Square Bet North Player of the Year award last season while with Alfreton, where he had spent three years. Hearn, an England C call-up but without winning a cap, was with Hucknall Town, Eastwood Town, Chasetown and Quorn prior to his spell with the Derbyshire club.
Given the Nottingham-born striker’s goals tally for the season so far it’s little surprise that Hearn is attracting interest, but Grimsby are determined to hold on to him, releasing a statement to that effect at the weekend: "With the January transfer window closing on Tuesday, the directors of Grimsby Town Football Club would like to reiterate they are absolutely committed to holding on to Liam Hearn at all costs — irrespective of substantial interest in the player."
Grimsby beat AFC Telford United 2-0 with Hearn helping to create the second goal.

What's England C? I struggle to remember when there was an England B match.
StuartBrett8 added 10:27 - Jan 30
England 'C' is non-league I believe... the guy has a great scoring record but Grimsby say he's not for sale.... however, where would you rather live? I've been to GRIM-sby and it's not great... if the player get's a choice he may come :)

A big step up. Need a proven league goal-scorer.
Sindre94 added 10:47 - Jan 30
Sounds good... And jas no we dont need a proven player, we've had enough of them Yes please to hungry players
Bleedingblue added 10:48 - Jan 30
Agree jas. However, if we sign young or inexperienced players they can develop and we at least get some money back as they gain in value. We need a mix of ages and the obvious two centre backs preferably b4 west ham.

Just because he's in the blue square doesn't mean he won't score goals in the championship as the size of the goal doesn't change .... Hate to say it but look at Holt and Morrison they were non league a few years ago!!!!! So let's give him a chance if we sign him.....
StuartBrett8 added 11:01 - Jan 30
@Ridgeboy I was going to mention Grant Holt, as much as it pains me to say it he's been amazing for Norwich, just the sort of big in your face centre forward that any club would want.... let's buy him instead? ;)
Ridgeboy83 added 11:27 - Jan 30
Couldn't agree more @StuartBrett9 that's exactly what we need along with a few central defenders....we should be able to get this guy fairly cheap too as I can't see wanting to stay once he finds out we are interested.
dirtyboy added 11:45 - Jan 30
I'm a great believer that a finisher can finish, whatever league they're in. It's all about taking chances. All very well saying it's against lower league, but it's also with lower league service. Dare I say it, but Grant Holt isn't doing too bad. A goal scorer is a goal scorer, if they're composed in front of goal, that's all you need worry about.
Stu_Magoo added 11:50 - Jan 30
He's played for Quorn?? If we dont get him, I firmly suggest a meaty replacement......

I live in Grimsby and seen Hearn play alot, i've said to all my mates that ITFC could do with a player like him! Very quick, strong and knows where the net is. Get him in PJ! P.s knowing Grimsby Town as i do, any sniff of a decent offer they will always accept!
StuartBrett8 added 12:07 - Jan 30
Have Grimsby got any decent defenders? :)
Mark added 12:45 - Jan 30
Chopra and Scotland are proven goal scorers. I'd rather us sign players with something to prove! If we buy cheap players from the lower leagues and non-league it doesn't matter if several of them flop, as that's far better than expensive proven players failing as has been the case over and over again recently.

If you remember when asked about Jordan Rhodes Jewell said just because you can score in Div 1 doesnt mean he would score in Championship now every one thinks Blue square striker will be a good signing amazing you lot

Anyone even hinting at signing grant holt can hang their heads in shame. How dare you. Go support Norwich. Disgusting.
ArnieMsBigToe added 16:57 - Jan 30
Sindre94: I thoroughly agree. We've had proven goalscorers at this level. " Couldn't hit a Cows ar$e with a banjo" Priskin for one. Go for young and hungry players from the lower leagues. It pains me to say it, but like all true town fans, I'm afraid that bragging rites belong to the $cum at the moment.

Can't see him going to Portsmouth if they are not paying their players lol
