Reading Recall Keeper McCarthy
Reading Recall Keeper McCarthy
Wednesday, 28th Mar 2012 13:02

Reading have recalled keeper Alex McCarthy from his loan spell with the Blues. The 22-year-old, whose stay was expected to end on April 11th, will return to the Madejski Stadium tomorrow.

Chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "We had a request from Reading this morning and Alex will be going back there tomorrow."

McCarthy subsequently tweeted: "Thanks for all your messages really enjoyed my time at Ipswich, all the best rest of season."

Mikkel Andersen, the Royals' regular sub keeper while McCarthy has been out on loan at Town and Leeds, has a knee injury and could face time on the sidelines.

The England U21 international made 10 appearances for the Blues having signed on loan in January. The Guildford-born keeper's time at Portman Road started less than impressively with a red card at Leeds in his third game but his performances improved as he settled into the side.

Arran Lee-Barrett looks set to start against Barnsley at Portman Road on Saturday with Richard Wright on the bench.

US U20 international Cody Cropper, 19, is also available having made his first appearance for the U18s at the weekend after undergoing knee surgery in December.

Keeper finds form and then club that owns him revoke loan as soon as...great. ITFC, stop loaning keepers and find a keeper who will be the foundation of a solid defence!

Or logan Bailly from genk? Probably wouldnt cost too much and is fairly young, and a top keeper!

Under good authority I believe we have signed Scott Loach for next year! Would be a quality signing along with Pearce and Ward from Pompey.

Somebody i know was saying they spoke to Loach after the Watford game and they asked him to come back to Ipswich. Apparently his reply was that he'd walk here to be offered a contract! Great commitment but is he better than ALB? I'd like to see Cropper given a few games in the first team to see how he fairs. Also like to see Carson and Hyam given runs in the first XI again and possibly see Whight and that Byron given a game. Why not? Nothing to lose and nothing to gain except match experience for the youngsters.

Anybody thought of a certain Neil Alexander from Rangers? I think he's one of the best keepers we've had here in recent times and with Rangers looking likely to go bust at the end of the season, might be able to lure him back for cheap?

Good! Never liked him anyway, he didn't put in the effort and didn't look like he wanted to be their! Give Lee-Barret a chance to prove himself and sign a keeper on a perminant next season, no more loan 'keepers please! Like to see us get Scott Loach and hopefully Cody Cropper can get closer to the first team! COYB!

Thamks Booble, but why do you pick me out for being negative? I'm not the only one. The last 5 years would make anyone depressed so no wonder I have a negative outlook. PJ isn't any good. We are going nowhere except mid table and he can't get anyone to sign for us. If it's mid table you want PJ is the man.
Ps I got he Watford score right.

No great loss. No better than what we already had so why incur the expense?

Wobbleswick - Not just picking on you my friend, i said exactly the same to Jas too. There are a lot of negative posters and everyone one of you has that right, its what these sites are for but you and Jas in particular post nothing but negative statements and some (not all) are truly ridiculous and are said probably to get a reaction.
Sometimes things go on that should be slated but you two have a knack of turning round even good news links.
Its obvious you dislike PJ. For me the jury is still out but i will say i think he has and is doing a ,much better job than RK.
We needed a bit change at the club (remember Shane Supple saying several of his team mates didnt care if we won) and that takes time. He has made mistakes , but he seems to be learning from them , but he has also made some positive changes and some good signings (Ellington and Ingy apart).
The team seem to be a team (just look at the reactions whenever we score, the whole team are always there) and if we can secure a GK and a couple of defenders i believe we have a top six side.
PS sorry didnt see your Watford prediction.

Total waste of time and money...should've just stuck with ALB...everyone makes the odd error here and there, just look at DeGea at man utd,but they're still top....feel sorry for ALB,the slightest error and he gets hammered.

didnt look too bad, once again based on his first few performances we can forget. Made some good saves last two matches and havent conceded too many as of late, welcome back ALB i guess.

Anyone who saw ALB at Brighton will know he will never make a half way competent keeper. Similarly McCarthy is adequate at best and Wrighty is way past his best. A new permanent keeper is a priority along with at least one centre back and a right back who can defend
