Reading Recall Keeper McCarthy Wednesday, 28th Mar 2012 13:02
Reading have recalled keeper Alex McCarthy from his loan spell with the Blues. The 22-year-old, whose stay was expected to end on April 11th, will return to the Madejski Stadium tomorrow.
Chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "We had a request from Reading this morning and Alex will be going back there tomorrow."
McCarthy subsequently tweeted: "Thanks for all your messages really enjoyed my time at Ipswich, all the best rest of season."
Mikkel Andersen, the Royals' regular sub keeper while McCarthy has been out on loan at Town and Leeds, has a knee injury and could face time on the sidelines.
The England U21 international made 10 appearances for the Blues having signed on loan in January. The Guildford-born keeper's time at Portman Road started less than impressively with a red card at Leeds in his third game but his performances improved as he settled into the side.
Arran Lee-Barrett looks set to start against Barnsley at Portman Road on Saturday with Richard Wright on the bench.
US U20 international Cody Cropper, 19, is also available having made his first appearance for the U18s at the weekend after undergoing knee surgery in December.

Well despite many of the other comments, I was quite impressed with McCarthy and if a permanent deal could be done in the summer, I'd be pleased. I suggest we now give Cody Cropper a debut, as he certainly is a talented young keeper.
Would like to see Wright in goal for the last home match of the season.
Would be good to say farewell to a player who has played over 300 games for the club. The save against Barnsly in the Play off final was a turning point in the game
Agree with bluelady ALB is just not good enough. PJ has really got to get this sorted out in the summer with a permanant keeper, we have been weak in this postion since Kelvin Davis left eight years ago.
PJ has made it clear that ALB is not going to be his No1 next season, give Wrighty a run, what can we lose? If he gets near his past form he might save us a signing.
walberswick you can say that about our previous two managers at least then. we have not had a solid no.1 for many years. i am sure that PJ will address this in the summer....... it was Mr Keane that signed ALB who was without a club and about to drift into footballs black hole.....
ALB has proven time and again when given a longer run in the team, he will make too many mistakes!
He's ok for that one or two games, as he tends to be a lucky keeper, but he just is not good enough and will be no more than a number 3 here next season.
No going down, no going up. Nothing to lose in giving cropper the run in.... Wright won't be here next season, so let the young talent strut his stuff!!!
Baring in my mind his limited experience in front of the league's worst defence, he was a good loan signing and a good goalkeeper. Future Premier League goalkeeper one day I imagine..
strikealite good call, he was one good keeper for us (but again not here for long enough). I personally think we will see Loach here next season, not everyones idea of what we need but that is my gut feeling.........
PJ should be ashamed of his handling of the keeper situation. Has had 15 months to address it and has so far delivered two loanees who were subsequently recalled. Laughable way to run a team, who should have been building from the back and for the future - PJ way of the pace I am afraid. Urgent attention required to this and the defence in the Summer.
