Reading Recall Keeper McCarthy
Reading Recall Keeper McCarthy
Wednesday, 28th Mar 2012 13:02

Reading have recalled keeper Alex McCarthy from his loan spell with the Blues. The 22-year-old, whose stay was expected to end on April 11th, will return to the Madejski Stadium tomorrow.

Chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "We had a request from Reading this morning and Alex will be going back there tomorrow."

McCarthy subsequently tweeted: "Thanks for all your messages really enjoyed my time at Ipswich, all the best rest of season."

Mikkel Andersen, the Royals' regular sub keeper while McCarthy has been out on loan at Town and Leeds, has a knee injury and could face time on the sidelines.

The England U21 international made 10 appearances for the Blues having signed on loan in January. The Guildford-born keeper's time at Portman Road started less than impressively with a red card at Leeds in his third game but his performances improved as he settled into the side.

Arran Lee-Barrett looks set to start against Barnsley at Portman Road on Saturday with Richard Wright on the bench.

US U20 international Cody Cropper, 19, is also available having made his first appearance for the U18s at the weekend after undergoing knee surgery in December.

Maybe ALB is happy to be number 2 as his football career was going nowhere now he has had a couple of years on 2-5k a week in wages.

Got a feeling Jewell woud have told him he wont be number 1. bit like Sivell and Cooper.

Some of the comments on here are pretty comical really. You seem to want to play ALB whom we have lost 6 games this season with whilst he was in goal compared to McCarthy whom when he was in goal this season we lost only 3 times and 2 of those were in his first 3 games, so a big improvement on what we have had in goal so far this season. As for signing Stockdale... no thanks we lost 9 games whilst he was in. I know who I'd prefer in goal out of those 3 and don't forget McCarthy is only 22yrs old.

All this aside. Who do we want in the summer as our new number one?
I'd like to see a solid 25 or 26 year old come in at a decent price, someone from the lower leagues or Championship, someone who could stay with Town for the next decade.

Ideally Cropper would get a good run of games and play some blinders to warrant a place on the bench next season.

Keepers on the wish list?

Joe Lewis
Keiren Westwood
Wes Foderingham?

Booble, Jewellio has been in charge at Ipswich for more thabn a year and these are the goalkeepers he inherited or signed. I think even you would agree he hasn't sorted this position out yet.

And if previous summer transfer windows are anything to go by PJ will dither about and come up with the cheap option of another loanee.

Good luck to ALB for the rest of the season but it must be humiliating when the manager doesn't rate you.

A staggering decision to sign him in the first place. I only saw him at Leeds, enough said!

Wobbles - yeah i would rather we have a full time GK than a loanee, i thin k we all would. However i think Pj was right to get rid of Fulop and Murphy. ALB i think is an excellent number two and if he is happy to stay as that (which i think he may be) i would be happy for him to stay.
Stockdale was good and McCarthy was getting better every game and RW was only signed as a stop-gap.
Pj is obviously looking for a GK as he bid for Henderson and hopefully in the summer we will get one. It is frustrating but i would rather we take our time and get the right player rather than throwing money away on the first ones that come up.
In my opinion you are the same as several other posters on here in that you only post negative comments (whatever the news thread is) and obviously you dont like PJ. Thats fair enough but your constant negative posts, and anti Jewell comments, some of which are just ridiculous devalue any valid points you may actually have.
I see your match prediction was wrong again by the way.
Fondest Regards
Booble

Tom Heaton of Cardiff is out of contract and it's not being re-newed so I think he would be my first choice to go after.

Neither GK are good enough for us if we are serious about pushing for promtion. Just add GK to the, "total makeover of ITFC defence" list (with exception of Cresswell).

Not sure how much truth there is in the report of Joe Lewis being PR bound in the summer.

don't feel as confident for saturday now, ALB is a poor keeper!
shame McCarthy has gone back, excellent shot-stopper, shame his kicking was so shocking!
I feel that we need an experienced goalkeeper for next season, someone who the defence can trust, because at times the defence doesn't trust ALB, and when you don't trust your goalkeeper, that's when mistakes are made!

We aren't going to be promoted or relegated this season. We know what ALB and RW can/can't do, so let's have a look at Cody Cropper. If he turns out to be great, then fine, we may have saved a huge amount of money. If he is useless then we know to get rid of him as well. There really isn't any point in spending money on the youth set up unless we're prepared to give its products a run.

Cheers Alex all the best!

Need a GK in the summer as well as other players.

Going to be a busy one again.

I certainly hope that is the last loan keeper, ALB is an ok number 2. Loan keepers are not the way forward...coyb

Cody Cropper in goal please, looks like a young Brad Friedel and will do brilliant if he does half as well as him

Did someone say Shane Supple? One of my favourite Town keepers. Have a go at tempting him back. He's won a Dublin county championship at gaelic football, and if his problem was with the previous regime... what have we got to lose?

Thankfully only a few meaningless games left this season.
This has been a crisis waiting to happen all season.
A successful team has strength at the back.
A long term solution is way to long overdue

Thank goodness for that he is not better than ALB or Richard Wright. Quite why Reading gave him a new contract is beyond me.
I know nothing about this Cody Cropper kid but if he is ours we might as well see how he gets on, we have nothing to lose but we must sort the goal keeping position out sooner rather than later along with the defence.

Loach and Heaton would do me fine as well.

Ward, Pearce, Clingan and Rhodes would be my wish list to add...
Oh, And Dos Santos of course!!!!

ALB this season: P10 W5 D1 L4. Just about playoff standard.

Only Luke Hyam and Imbrahima Sonko have given the team better records when in the starting lineup. Enough said.
