Blues striker Ronan Murray scored his fourth goal for loan club Swindon as the League Two leaders won 2-0 at Barnet this evening. Murray, who is at the County Ground until the end of the season, struck in the 13th minute to put the Robins in front with Oliver Risser adding the second on 31.

Murray was particularly pleased to net with his last goal having come at the end of February: “It was brilliant, it had been a while coming because my last goal was some time ago.

“It was good to get on the scoresheet because I love to score goals, I have not been playing at my best the last couple of months but hopefully I showed last night what I can do.

“You have to be disciplined and wait for your chance and I think I have done that. I just try to do my best for the team because that is what it is all about.

“The aim for this club is to get promotion and win the league and I am just doing what I can to help them do that.”

Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio was delighted with the Irish U21 international: “The early goal gave us the chance to play with more confidence. An early goal is always important but we went on from there.

“The goal was one of fantastic quality too and he is a talented player. He works hard and I am happy for him and of course for the rest of the players.”

Murray, who signed a new one-year deal with the Blues earlier in the season, has made eight starts and 14 sub appearances for the Wiltshire club having initially joined them on loan in November, returning for a second spell in January.

His good performances for Swindon have been few and far between and just 4 goals for a Champions elect side in League Two for a striker is not a great return considering how long he's been there. I also hope I'm wrong but I don't think he's one to make the step up.

stinkiusminkius added 14:25 - Apr 4 Streety - I don't think any of the 'fans' that you are having a go at have slated the lad - in fact they've all expressed disappointment that they don't think he will make it at Ipswich's level, and have given their opinions in a balanced way, without any mindless slagging off that often comes on these forums. streety86 added 18:46 - Apr 4 All I'm sayin is seeing comments like not good enough and no hope haven't really got any weight behind them, yes he hasn't played a great deal for Swindon but if you have experienced players in your squad scoring 10 and 11 goals why would he play every week? Jordan rhodes went out on loan a few times and hardly played look where he is! He can't be that bad if we a) offered him a new contract b) Swindon tried to sign him and c) we rejected the offer. The truth of the matter is it's highly likely any of the doubters have seen him play and are making judgement on basic stats. Hope I prove you all wrong!!

newburyblue added 20:22 - Apr 4 @streety86 Rhodes went on loan to Oxford, Rochdale and Brentford and had a record of pretty much a goal a game. We all knew he would score goals wherever he went. As for Murray I certainly never slagged him off, just said I didn't think he would make the grade. I've seen him fleetingly in his few appearances at Town and I work with a Swindon season ticket holder who doesn't really rate him and thinks his performances have got progressively worse. He'll be back next year so we'll see what happens. I hope he's brilliant!

stinkiusminkius added 20:34 - Apr 4 Fair play Streety - I accept that my "learn to read" comment was unnecessary. Although I don't think any of the above comments were idiotic and all seemed calmly rational. Anyway, ideally you will be right and Murray will be a top player for us next season.
