Quartet Chasing Ward
Quartet Chasing Ward

Town, Leeds, Crystal Palace and Burnley are understood to be the four clubs in the running for versatile Portsmouth defender or midfielder Joel Ward's signature. The 22-year-old is believed to have been at Elland Road for talks on Wednesday and is likely to make a decision on his new club next week.

Town have been targeting Ward, who is expected to leave his hometown club for a fee approaching £500,000, since January when he was one of three Pompey players the Blues were chasing.

Offers were accepted for Ward and keeper Stephen Henderson, who is now with West Ham, but the moves broke down over personal terms. A bid for central defender Jason Pearce was turned down and the former Bournemouth man recently moved to Leeds.

On Wednesday, reports claimed Ward is most likely to join his former team-mate at the West Yorkshire club.

perhaps he is at a stage in his career/life when he should 'man up' and cut himself away from Pearce's apron strings.

so that'll be a move to Palace or Burnley then!

The type of player we need - but can Clegg/PJ sort out a deal? Time will tell - but not overly optimistic. Please prove me wrong!

Really want this player! Will be a huge shame if we don't get him! Maybe if clegg and jewell can't persuade him us fans could through twitter! Worth a try?

Looking from a promotion perspective:

Palace have some decent players but are likely to move on, can't see them bringing in many decent players either. A team I like but can't see them as top six next season.

Burnley very good on their day but inconsistent, probably going to lose Rodriguez, potential to be a decent side.

Leeds: Warnock factor and stature of club, as well as his mate being there would seem the obvious option.

ITFC: Clear ambition with financial backing and seems to be a good number of players coming good now, surely it is only a matter of time before Ipswich are once again promotion contenders?

Probably biased but I think we are a very attractive side to play for, would be very surprised if he doesn't sign for Leeds though.

Leeds bound, as he seems to follow his team mate like a lost sheep.

I guess Leeds is seen as a bigger club worth going to ... being a Yorkshireman myself I know which team I would rather play for ... and they don't wear white as a home kit.
I will eventualy stop mourning the lack of Pearce at Town, but if he went for £500K we should have been in for him and Ward ... but hey ... we WERE in for them and they didn't want to come. I will get over it ...

Good to see Town looking for defenders this time ... but why all the left feet ... PLEASE Tommy stay and become and ITFC legend in only a few years time!!

Well he didn't sign while he was at Elland Road and he allegedly told PJ he wanted to come here so we may get a nice suprise - be good news if he does come. He could be waiting for PJ to return from hols ??????
