Derby Striker Linked
Derby Striker Linked
Monday, 21st May 2012 23:40

Town, Leeds and Bristol City are battling it out for Derby County striker Steve Davies, according to tabloid reports. The Whites are claimed to be ready to launch a £1 million offer for the 24-year-old with the Blues and Robins also said to be interested.

The Town link may due to Blues boss Paul Jewell having signed Davies from Tranmere for a fee which could have risen as high as £725,000 had various clauses been triggered when manager at Pride Park.

Injuries - including a fractured skull last October - have limited Davies to only 55 starts and 39 sub appearances in his four years with Derby, scoring 23 goals, 12 of them in 2011/12.

[Update]

Rams manager Nigel Clough revealed on Tuesday morning that Davies has been transfer-listed having turned down the offer of a new contract due to "a genuine family reason". Davies has a year remaining on his current deal, Derby having taken up an option on his previous terms.

would be fairly pleased if we got him. seems to score some good goals, and with chops playing on the last man, think these two could get a good partnership. but would LOVE wickham back on loan! plus, leeds are linked AGAIN?! blimy, hahaha! COYB!

Do TWTD do any research question: if Leeds r struggling 2 afford £450,000 4 J.Ward how can they by offering 1m 4 Davies it's doesn't make any sense

It's all nonsense. Leeds can't afford £1m, we would never pay that either. And good thing too when there are players as good who have been released, by Prem and Champs clubs.
Leeds,Leicester and us will be linked with every player going, because of who we are - recently in the Prem, decent set-up, ambition to step up etc etc.
But this is getting annoying now.

Sure your not working for other teams phil, 2 years ago it was qpr, last year it was Leicester this year Leeds.

Gibbo

Two years ago Neil Warnock was QPR manager, perhaps not coincidentally! I suspect there's an element of Town and Leeds being in similar positions presently and are chasing players of the same profile.

Good player. Definitely got ability. Think he'd link up well in our formation. Not worth more than half a mill tho. Only got a year left . . . . .

Phil
Can't see this 1 either I look forward too your next story saying Bid, fee agreed having a medical, signed unfortunately some fans believe we r looking at every player your linking us with which it's already making fans 2 criticise Jewell Clegg n Evans when the club have no interest in most of these players

And even if we are looking at them it doesn't mean we're interested enough to make an offer for all of them.

ease up on phil you dont have to read it you know we seem to have a lot of moaners yeah 90% doesnt turn out to be signings but he does state linked not signed anyway hes a decent player and would be a good addition but surely some centre backs or right backs would be better lets hope we sign some soon but dont panic we got plenty of time

people who are saying Leeds are stuggling to afford 450,000 for Ward, it's not that. It's that their stingy chairman doesn't want to pay his wages.

Injury prone and not good enough for Derby ? Not sure on this one . Could go either way . Sometimes players need a change and a fresh challange to ignite their careers . Shame he's not on a free , then it wouldnt seem as much as a gamble if we did go for the lad . Oh well i suppose we just have to trust Jewell and co to get it right with transfers this pre season.

Who we are? wake up and smell the coffee mate, unless we do sign players a fairer comparison for Ipswich would not be Leeds and Liecester it would be MK Dons and Huddersfield.

All this 'noise' about strikers, wingers etc is just a cover while the management quietly beaver away to sign a GK, RB and 2 X CHs.
