Town Again Watch Icelander
Town Again Watch Icelander
Thursday, 24th May 2012 23:33

Town were one of a number of English clubs represented at Lillestrøm’s 0-0 draw with Aalesund this evening to keep tabs on 21-year-old Icelandic striker Björn Bergmann Sigurdarson. The Blues, Everton, Sunderland, Reading and Fulham all sent scouts, while incoming new Wolves manager StÃ¥le Solbakken was also present.

Norwegian Solbakken played for Lillestrøm during his playing career and the recently-relegated Midlanders would appear to be the favourites for the one-time ÍA Akranes frontman, who has been valued at £3 million to £4 million.

Town also watched the once-capped Icelander on Sunday as he scored his 11th goal of the season.

Haha, i couldn't believe it but i got this player Inform on Fifa in a pack. But this isn't fifa. Can't see us signing him to be quite honest. If all those premier league teams are interested, we have no chance.

3-4million on someone with no experience of the English game, risky. Rhodes at the same price 8-) lol

Sometimes in life you have to take a gamble. This guy is worth it.

much rather him than Fuller ...still astonished that we could consider risking that kind of money. Are we sure we arent watching the club's 5th choice goalkeeper or something? would be more in our price range lol

Premier league teams were interested in /watched Cresswell, doesn't mean they will sign for them every time.

Struggling though to see us paying £3-4m on, well, anyone can you?

Would absolutely love us to sign him! Someone scored against me in a tournament final with him in form on ultimate team yesterday

"Town also watched the once-capped Icelander on Sunday as he scored his 11th goal of the season"

It should be pointed out that 4 of these are in the cup against lower legue teams who are not very good at all and one of the league goals the other team let him score because of fair play gone mad.

Hope we can get him but at 3-4 millon he will be a risk.

Nope. £3m for a player in the Norwegian pub league is not a good bet. Better value elsewhere.
and please will people stop saying players look good on some computer game. If programmed right the computer could make me play like Messi on a game.

No way will we spend that amount of money on one player ???
we would expect half a team for that amount of money..
A couple of seasons ago yes we would have spent that much on a single player...

He would be good but we have no chance of signing him coz all the premier clubs but if trotter and Rhodes go to a premier league club we get money out of it but it will have to be quick.

how can a player worth 4million have only one cap for Iceland? I dont think there is any way he would go for that much. Maybe with addons etc over years it might.

I suspect our entire budget for the season might not quite reach 3 million and most likely we were actually watching another player

Everton are in talks with Lillestrom regarding Sigurdarson according to Liverpool Echo. I saw him play up front for Iceland at the U21 final in Denmark and he looked really good.

@ andygizmo

I had him in my team for a Subbuteo game last night and he looked good.

Sounds like a promising player, think he'd probably leave for about £1-2m not the high price he's being valued at.

I wouldn't be surprised if we did sign him. Admittedly bigger teams (pretty much everyone else) are after him, but teams like Liverpool and Arsenal were after Wickham, and he went to sunderland. Big teams don't want to spend massive amounts on potential - unfortunately that didn't work for Connor.
Which is why he will go to Reading for £5 million.

Again on a less 'youth-based' note, Jon Carew just been released by West Ham - he's 32 but not '32 and past it' I wouldn't suggest - Carew and Chopra - has a nice ring to it don't you think?

This reminds me of the time we were reportedly in for Batistuta and we ended up signing Adrian Paz!

Hopefully they have a Thor like CB that we are actually watching.

Overrated I think! Playing halfdecent in the norwegian top-flight doesn't prove much.
But I have more interresting news: according to the local newspaper for Kristiansand, Start IK's hometown, their very promising keeper talent Michael Crowe is set to join the Blues! He is coming to Ipswich late june, early july to join the academy:-) Last year he was one of the finalist in a tv-series where a number of norwegian keepertalents competed to named norways gratest keepertalent. He didn't win mainly because he was a bit shy and quiet. But he was right up there to the end.

Stop worrying about it lads. The rag is saying he is going to Palace anyway! COYB

We will not be spending 3-4M, so this seems like an unrealistic target to me. Better to look at targets we may actually be able to sign. Ward is in that catagory - but apaprently could be off to Palace.
