Jewell Confident Chambers Will Sign Next Week
Jewell Confident Chambers Will Sign Next Week
Thursday, 5th Jul 2012 13:34

Town boss Paul Jewell says he’s as confident as he can be that former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers will be joining the Blues next week. The 26-year-old was at Portman Road on Tuesday for talks, to undergo a medical and to look around the stadium and training facilities.

Jewell, who has Chambers right at the top of his list of potential summer signings, told the club site: "I've met Luke on a number of occasions over the summer to talk football.

“He's very keen to come here and we've been speaking on the phone regularly over the last day or two.

“We're very hopeful it will get done next week, but until it's signed, sealed and delivered, it's not done.

"I've been in football long enough to know that there are a lot of factors in getting a player signed and I've learnt before that you can never be 100 per cent confident, but I'm as certain as I can be at this stage that we're almost there."

That fat lady has been gargling for a ruddy long time.

Is she or is she not going to sing?

In fairness, if I'd lived somewhere for 5 years and needed to move to a completely different area with my family, I'd want to take as long as I (and they) needed to make the decision. If he gets here within 2 days or 10 days from now, so be it. Give the guy a break. If he turns out good next season, I'm sure (actually given some of the tossers on the forums, I doubt it) the extra few days here and there will be entirely forgotten.

Still wont be happy about this until he's stood in a Town shirt or training kit.

Every Town signing seems to take soooooooooo bloody long to get completed: Why ?

Big decision to uproot your entire family, I wonder if he is waiting to see if Notts Forest complete their take over as Cotterill has said he wants to keep him. Given the abuse he has had from the Forest fans hopefully one of them will drive him down here and show him where to sign. Luke, we love you, come and join us, Suffolk is lovely.

Agree Andy uk, players have so much power now, especially when they know they're wanted. Agents have a big say in this too, no doubt Chambers is weighing things up and who can blame him...I blame the Club, after the tour and the medical he should be given 24 hours to sign or we move on......very frustrating indeed.

thing is the longer it goes with out him having put pen to paper for us , the more likely it is he will sign for some one else!

For the people that are saying "oh but is he any good?", he must be better than what we have already. Also the Cresswell 'rumour' i can't see being true because 1. The person that said this, only has 2 news comments and 2. Get your source and post it on here, then i may believe you.

He is 26, with a young family, making only the 2nd move of his career. He is not going to move overnight. Relax people.

(btw, i my account was hacked if he joins Leicester?Leeds on Monday.)

PJ is confident he will sign but does not say who for lol. I have said all the way along he will sign and still believe he will. If he doesn't we move on, I have no worries about the forest fans slating him even if he has played badly last year could be he didn't fit in or even was unmotivated due to the so called fans constantly on his back, mmm now That reminds me of somewhere lol.

looking likely now.
i think sonko will resign but we will still need another CB. I dont think we'll have a gk for a while as we are linked to many.
for a cf, luke varney?, cheap and should get 10+ goals

I'm sure if we sign LC the message board will be filled with delight and relief.
I would expect 2-3 signings hopefully next week as well as Chambers.

I don't get this at all? He has had all summer apparently Jewell been stalking him. Surely you would know by now and have discussed with your family? Something just don't seem right. Hope I'm proved wrong

Thanks for the update PJ....now don't let us down and get this one done.

"He's very keen to come here" I wouldn't go that far Mr Jewell. I'd be 'very keen' to sign for Ipswich and would have been at Portman Road the day after my contract at NFFC had expired, to sign up....I'd say Chambers is less than 'very keen' but hopefully more than 'completely uninterested'.

Been told sign by Tuesday, then Wednesday, then by the end of the week. Now next week.

What's next? Leeds sign Chambers.

No doubt about it, he's waiting for a better offer somewhere else otherwise he'd have signed by now. Hope i'm wrong.

This is all very familiar really. I hope he signs won't hold my breath tho. All this he has to think of his family it's part and parcel of being a football player. Double ur wages oh but you have to move. It is now evident why PJ signed such sh*t last year because that's all we could get. Fed up with all this speculation regarding players it would be nice to hear a positive report like someone has actually signed. Our once proud club now seems to be a stepping stone for players to get a better deal else where!! I hope I have to eat my words however I had been quiet so far in this transfer window running out of patience now. I am always optimistic or is it delusion that we will be in the PL within the next couple of years however if things carry on the way they are here's to another 10 years in this league.Sign up or 0121 chambers.
