Some Matchday Prices Cut
Some Matchday Prices Cut
Wednesday, 11th Jul 2012 14:31

Town have cut some of their matchday ticket prices for 2012/13 season by around 20% and frozen some others. In the wake of last season’s ticketing trials, the club has reduced standard Grade C game adult prices to £20, £25 and £30 with seats for the opening match of the campaign against Blackburn on Saturday 18th August amongst those set at those levels. Grade A, B and D prices are frozen.

Chief executive Simon Clegg said: “Blackburn are obviously recently relegated from the Premier League and wouldn’t normally be classed as a Grade C game, but it’s our first Championship match of the season and a good opportunity for us to offer the very competitive ticket prices.

“The ticket price trial was relatively successful last season and we have taken that into consideration with our matchday ticket prices.

“We have kept prices frozen in three categories with a significant reduction in Grade C games but it’s important to recognise the commitment of those fans who purchase season tickets and that will always remain the most cost-efficient way of watching this club.”

Matchday prices have come in for significant criticism in recent seasons, including in the recent TWTD Questionnaire, with many fans feeling they are too high when compared to the pro rata cost of a season ticket.

The Blues will continue to discount the price of tickets purchased before matchday with an additional £2.50 for adults and concessions and £1 for under-16s added to seats bought on the day. Fans buying home match tickets online will not pay booking fees.

Meanwhile, due to the renaming of the East of England Co-operative Stand and the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand, Town are to send all season ticket holders new cards for the campaign ahead.

These are currently being printed and will start to be sent out in the week commencing July 23rd.

The club and Clegg in particular have taken a lot of very strong criticism recently and in many cases I feel it has been unjustified.

Think that they should be congratulated for this decision and for sorting out Chambers and Klug this summer. It seems to me like they are listening to what the fans are saying and we are pulling in the right direction. This type of thing will only work and become a long term option if people take them up on it and fill the ground, I hope everyone makes the most of it. Blackburn for £20 is decent.

ANOTHER disgraceful showing by Mr Clegg in reducing valuable match day income. Was he employed by Evans to asset strip us?

What about the season ticket holders. It's not fair !!!!! They are the lifeblood of the club !!!! No that's right Clegg, you look after the armchair fans that only go to 2 games a season !!!! Sick of this treatment of loyal fans !!!!

Warky1970 - so you are saying anybody who is not a season ticket holder is an armchair fan?

im not a season ticket holder - i was for four years, but now i live in London its not that easy for me. Last season I went to approximately 10 away games, probably a similar amount of home games too in fact.

anyway for an 'armchair fan' such as myself i think this is good news. I also think that season ticket holders will still be getting a much better deal and that your average price per game will still in fact be cheaper than the price offered by this 20% discount.

Surely as a season ticket holder you would rather see bigger crowds due to incentives like these, yet still with yourself paying less?

Clegg literally cant win can he? Warky1970 i only went to 3 home games last year but 10 of the away games because i live in Watford. Its more appealing for me to pay for the train to a home game if the ticket price is a few quid cheaper. This attracts those of us who dont live 10 mins from the Fortress and is a good way to increase attendances all round. Which should, in theory, boy the lads on the pitch!

Yeah I went to that god awful watford game and had to sit in a car with two others with massive hangovers. I would much rather have sat in an armchair. Or preferably in bed. Silly silly supporter am I.

And I shelled out about 70 snots on my birthday to watch the pant filling performance at millwall. I hate it when they make it more affordable to watch a game at my home town so I might be more inclined to watch a match next to a moaning get like you.

One of the reasons I don't watch town as much as I'd like to is the on the day ticket price. I think £28 to watch a mid-table championship side is a disgusting price I've watched spurs for less! this price drop will encourage fans like myself to attend matches therefore bringing in bigger crowds generating a better atmosphere and income into the club. engage brain before approaching keyboard warky1970!!! coyb

I suspect Mr Warky is being somewhat ironic.

Watford was pretty awful yes, the short walk home was a plus though. Coventry was the worst in terms of conditions (2 foot of snow and -8 degrees) but i couldnt complain when Chops rammed that header home in the last minute of added time!

I am season ticket holder. Sorry - but I dont begrudge this reduction. I would rather sit in a good atmosphere than a stadium as empty as some games last year. Because I am fortunate enough to be able to pay in advance I get cheaper tickets and unless someone tells me otherwise this is still cheaper than occassional supporters get for occassional matches. Supporting your team isnt always about money its about the pleasure and the pain of being a supporter, of having the banter with the regulars around you and several other thinkgs which makes it so enjoyable going week in week out even if the performance isnt what you want it to be. In the long run encouraging more bums on seats is good for everyone. Appreciate others have other differing opinions but cant understand why people moan its all too expensive expensive and then bitch when the club listens and reacts accordingly.

Why are the club wasting money printing new cards when they could just re-activate my old one? It really isn't going to confuse me that much having the old stand names on. I would sooner have a free pie.

As far as I am concerned this is a move in the right direction and proof that the club are listening to the fans even though their experiments with the cheaper tickets didn't lead to a huge increase in bums on seats and the gate receipts were probably lower than a full priced game.
I've never understood grading games, I go to watch the town, not the opposition and I go when I am both available and can afford to go. As my work is all over the place a season ticket would go unused for a good number of games and therefore cost more than the individual tickets but I don't see why my support should be less valued.

FINALLY - Clegg is beginning to understand. As a season ticket holder, I think this is a good idea - as our commitment to pay for every game is still recognised by the club. Well done Clegg.

Good news, although how good it is depends how they categorise the games of course. Category C tickets are now good value, at around £3 or £4 more than a season ticket holder pays (so season ticket holders are not "losing out"). How many Category C games will there be though? It may be down to supporters, as if making a game Category C significantly improves attendances then I suspect there will be more of them.

I see that the Huddersfield game is Category B. That is "from £26" rather than £20.

As a season ticket holder I think Clegg should be given credit for incentives like this. Obviously season ticket holders should always be better off but I want to be able to bring along some buddies to watch games. Cheaper tickets mean bigger crowds. Always a plus. It's depressing with a 30k seater stadium we rarely fill 50% of it.

im a season ticket holder, & have been for many years, & i certainly have no problem with this decision at all. the matchday prices have been too expensive for a long time now, so well done s.c., and all at itfc who made this decision. the only thing i wouldnt agree with, if it should happen again this season will be if they do the 4 tickets for a tenner each offer, & tell me its an incentive for season ticket holders as its no incentive for me to get 4 friends in for £10 when im paying around £16-£17 pounds on my season ticket.

Pabs added 17:45 - Jul 11
One idea could be for the club to reward season ticket holders based on the number of additional tickets a season ticket holder purchases for the special discount matches? This will benefit everyone the person with the cheap ticket, season ticket holder and the club. Just an idea, sure it will be shot down within a few minutes.
