Heaton at Town For Holland Tour?
Heaton at Town For Holland Tour?
Thursday, 12th Jul 2012 01:04

Former Cardiff City keeper Tom Heaton could join the Blues in time for next week’s two-game tour of Holland, according to a report in Wales. Heaton is a free agent having left the Bluebirds after turning down new terms at the end of last season and having had a contract offer cancelled after last week’s change of ownership and management at Watford.

The 26-year-old told Walesonline.co.uk that he is again looking for a club in the wake of the collapse of his move to Vicarage Road: “I had signed my part of the Watford contract, but now I am back looking for a club.

“A few weeks ago several clubs were interested and now my agent has been working to see what is available. It’s frustrating, but hopefully everything will look a lot clearer after the next 24 hours.”

Despite reports to the contrary, Town had not previously made an approach for the 6ft 3in tall keeper, who joined Manchester United as a schoolboy from Wrexham.

While at Old Trafford he spent time on loan at Swindon, Royal Antwerp, Cardiff, QPR, Rochdale and Wycombe Wanderers, the Chester-born glovesman eventually joining the Bluebirds on a permanent basis in June 2010 after his release by the Red Devils.

Prior to his near-switch to Watford, Heaton, who was capped three times by England at U21 level, had also been linked with Bristol City and Burnley.

Town, whose only current senior keeper is another ex-Cardiff man, Arran Lee-Barrett, travel to Holland for a training camp near Eindhoven on Monday and face Helmond Sport on Tuesday (KO 7pm local time) and Den Bosch on Thursday (KO 7pm local time).

Had a scour - this is from www.ccmb.co.uk

"In my opinion he's an excellent 'keeper and is better than the one we kept!"

"Very Good signing indeed"

"Thought he could do better than Watford, but good luck to him all the same"

"heaton is as good a keeper that anyone in the championship will get for free"

"What a signing for them. Quite like Watford so don't mind him going there, but thought he'd have gone to somewhere pushing for promotion. Unless their takeover is definitely coming off I suppose"

"Excellent keeper who will only get better. Thought he was unlucky not to start more games in the league after his Carling Cup heroics. He was always reliable"

"Really good keeper at this level and I think he will continue to improve - was sorry to see him go"

"Good signing indeed, really nice bloke too. Good luck Tom wherever you end up"

"You've got yourselves a very, very good keeper. Wouldn't look out of place in the Premier League and in my opinion he's better than our number one David Marshall. Our loss is your gain"

"quality keeper and as already been said better than the current number 1.best of luck tom"

"I met him on my holiday in May (same resort, was there with McNaughton & Cowie & families) top fella & would have been my prefence to keep him over Marshall. I was hoping he would do beter than that -no disrept to Watford. He said Dave Jones came in for him in January and that they had lunch again at the end of the season, at that time there were rumors he was going to Wednesday but he said there was nothing agreed, just talk. Good luck to him, I hope he gets a good reception from the redbluebird dragons at CCS"

"Great shot stopper and penalty reader, but dodgy on crosses as he is 4ft 7"

Going by the Cardiff fans opinion of Heaton I'm surprised he's on trial, thought he would just be snapped up straight away

this would be one of the peices to make the spine of the team solid.... great keeper...... his only run in the team last year for the bluebirds was the Carling Cup - they got to the final...... says hes pretty decent really!

We cannot go on a pre-season tour with only one keeper, if ALB gets injured we are going to look a right joke.
We must sign a new Keeper by Friday if Heaton was willing to sign for Watford i am sure he would sign for Ipswich. PJ please get job done.

Sign him up. The more i9 read about him, the more i think this is our no.1.

Yes please! As someone said, we like free (though take the point about signing on fees). I suspect he'd be one of three though and PJ will have a true No.1 in his sights.

I will feel a lot more comfortable with the season ahead when we have a decent keeper signed up, Heaton looks to be this - so get it done quick and then maybe we can look for a little bit more quality in other areas to enable us to go for a promotion push!!

@Dozzels_bobbelhat, you're right it doesn't, I was speed reading the article, but I got used to keepers 'joining us' for the Holland tour, like Riedmuller is supposed to. Would be a great signing though if it happens

Is the GK from Germany still here ?

irishtim added 11:17 - Jul 12
@meerreech. Did he actually arrive? Im not sure. Anyone know?

Sign him up, better option than Loach I'd say.
All seems to have gone quiet on the German keeper front.
Although he does look a little like a Rob Green/Novak Djokovic cross.

To Dave - the reason why no one signs for us is because the linked stories are a load of rubbish. Someone, Somewhere mentions a name and people add two and two together to make five and then report it on here. This is gossip page - nothing more or nothing less. If you decide to accept it as truth then you are naturally going to be disappointed.

Now and again, one of the stories will have some legs and we sign a player. Put it like this, if you stand in front of a dartboard blindfolded and keep throwing darts at it, then sooner or later you will hit the bullseye. Same as the news stories on here.

And with regards to the German Goalkeeper - i heard he was meeting up with the team in Holland. Just what my mate told me - don't know if it is true.

PS - Heaton would be a good signing.

any reason no1 has mentioned Craig Gordon (Sunderland - NOW FREE AGENT) Prem experience and i personally think he's a decent player, been linked with Bristol - Surely we are more appealing then effin Bristol??

I have another shout for ITFC No.1 ...... with our 'tight links with spurs' they will get their man Hugo Lloris (which a bid has to be tabled by monday) Leaving them with No. 2 - Brad Friedel, No.3 - Heurelho Gomes, No.4 - Carlo Cudicini .... i wouldn't be surprised if we saw Gomes sign for ITFC !!!

Clacton, not sure any of these are realsitic as we won't pay big wages. Heaton or Loach are probably more our level although I would like to see the Swedish guy as I have heard he is pretty decent and has been playing regular football.

> Mark re Watford....perhaps they need the cash???

They paid to bring in Kusczak which suggests to me they were not entirely happy with Loach.

I like what I read about Heaton and I think he could be the answer to our goalkeeping situation.

SaffronBlue - prehaps not but if we got rid of some of the deadwood such as Bullard, Ellington etc. then im sure we cud afford it, besides personally i think ME should get his wallet out/break the bank to bring in a top class no.1 who is going to be loyal and consistant performer, how can we build for a promotion pushing team without a keeper, still think the base of a solid team comes from a solid keeper! but im not moaning cuz im hopefully this coming season, and unlike others i dont blame the manager or Mr Clegg, they can only perform with the tools they are given and unless ME provides decent transfer & wage allowances they are restricted, however i think so far they have brought in 2 decent players.
