Heskey Training With Wigan
Heskey Training With Wigan
Monday, 30th Jul 2012 15:01

Former England striker Emile Heskey, with whom Blues manager Paul Jewell is understood to have held preliminary talks, is reported to be training with his former club Wigan Athletic. The 34-year-old was released by Aston Villa at the end of last season.

Asked about his interest in Heskey last week, Jewell refused to be drawn: “There are always reports. I’ve spoken to a number of players and agents over the summer. I don’t hide the fact that we want another forward and at least two other players in the squad.

“I don’t want to really discuss what I do privately. I understand you guys [the media] have got a job to do and you can always speculate, but sometimes conversations - whether it’s between me and Emile Heskey or somebody else - until there’s anything definite they’ll always remain private.”

Just because someone trains with their old club doesn't mean they are about to sign for them

Wages are too high for us anyway, not really interested in signing him to be honest, could maybe do a job but we want to go places.

Heskey really is dividing opinion! Personally I think he has had his day; is not the future of ITFC and will cost far too much in wages - we are failing to compete for some players as it is! This would be a complete and utter waste. PJ could and I am sure will, do better.

I think he would be a great partner for Chops.. can't really see him coming though.

when emile heskey was released by aston villa he flew into a mad rage and drove round birmingham city centre shooting at people on a killing spree, luckily no one was injured and he didn't hit anyone. would be happy if the big man signed, he may not be the best but he'd show his value at this level

I think we should steer clear of Heskey. We might as well sign a younger player on a season's loan than sign a 34-year-old, as both are only likely to serve one season. We need to continue to build for the future, adding to the very good signings of Loach, Cresswell, Chambers, Hewitt and Emmanuel-Thomas.

Alan Judge has turned down a new deal at Notts County, we were intrested in him earlier on this summer, perhaps worth making a move for him??

Would be surprised to see him return there, I don't think he's got what it takes for the Prem anymore. Would do a shift in the Championship but I wouldn't offer more than a 1 year deal.

If we were genuinely interested he'd be training with us... a non story to be honest, would have been worth a punt maybe a year or two ago.

In my opinion he was duff at 28 let alone 34!!!

Shows how desperate Wigan are if hes back training with them!! not interested thanks would rather pj sticks to buying young, hungry lads from the lower leagues (your not telling me there isnt a big target man for half the wage down in league1/2?). Heskeys more than had his day so lets move on.

A good friend of mine and a mad Villa fan of many years reply when I said Ipswich was thinking of signing Hesky ( WTF do you want him for he has done nothing but draw wages for years) Good enough for me hope he goes to Wigan

I have a cup of care. For Cressy leaving it is full -/. For Heskey joining it is very empty. /_. Unless he only wants a fiver a week.

Do not worry friends ... if we aren't in a position financially to compete against Bristol City for the signature of Steve Davis from Derby we don't have a cat in hell's chance of landing someone like Heskey!! So no chance of another expensive bench warmer wasting what is obviously our fast disappearing resources!!
