Former England striker Emile Heskey, with whom Blues manager Paul Jewell is understood to have held preliminary talks, is reported to be training with his former club Wigan Athletic. The 34-year-old was released by Aston Villa at the end of last season.

Asked about his interest in Heskey last week, Jewell refused to be drawn: “There are always reports. I’ve spoken to a number of players and agents over the summer. I don’t hide the fact that we want another forward and at least two other players in the squad.

“I don’t want to really discuss what I do privately. I understand you guys [the media] have got a job to do and you can always speculate, but sometimes conversations - whether it’s between me and Emile Heskey or somebody else - until there’s anything definite they’ll always remain private.”

Personally I think he has had his day; is not the future of ITFC and will cost far too much in wages - we are failing to compete for some players as it is! This would be a complete and utter waste. PJ could and I am sure will, do better.

Mark added 19:12 - Jul 30 I think we should steer clear of Heskey. We might as well sign a younger player on a season's loan than sign a 34-year-old, as both are only likely to serve one season. We need to continue to build for the future, adding to the very good signings of Loach, Cresswell, Chambers, Hewitt and Emmanuel-Thomas.
