McCoist Confirms Town's Edu Move Monday, 20th Aug 2012 13:27 Rangers manager Ally McCoist has confirmed that the Blues have made an offer to US international midfielder Maurice Edu, but says the 26-year-old is yet to accept it.
McCoist said: "As far as I know, there has been an offer on the table from Ipswich which, as yet, he hasn't accepted.
"He trained this morning. I'm just hopeful something can be resolved sooner rather than later."
Edu, who said last week he was aware that Town were interested but that he knew nothing beyond that, has told the Glasgow side that he intends to move on.
Whether Rangers are entitled to a fee for the former Toronto FC man is not yet clear with contradictory reports circulating.

Lets hope we have other targets for forwards lined up , Davies saga is another that has drawn on and become more and more boring as time progressed. He himself said it was for family reasons and wanted to move further south , in all fairness Bristol is 27 miles closer to Derby than ipswich !!!!!!!

he is at rangers training,as for davies he wont do nothing at bristol,in fact i hope he gets injured after the 1st game

Davis is a sick note I am glad he not on way to the Town
TownOnTheUp added 13:49 - Aug 20
Why on Earth would you hope he gets injured? Davies wanted to come to us, but Derby wouldn't accept our bid, so it has very little to do with him. This isn't a Nugent or a Jeffers or an Austin, where they wanted too much money, or they changed their mind after doing everything but putting pen to paper. It seems churlish and petty to wish injury on another footballer. As to the actual article, we all know Edu would be a good signing. A midfield of Hyam, Luongo, Drury or Edu would certainly do a job at this level. I'm just concerned about the wages it'd eat up, particularly when I see the more creative areas of midfield, strikers, and defenders as a greater concern.

I will be staggered if we pull this one off as Edus his wage demands will be even higher than those of Davies I would have thought. Be great if we get him but won't hold my breath.

Ipswich61, I've had to give you a down arrow for that, why would you wish injury on someone who hasn't even spoken to us? Derby wouldn't accept our offer so Davies can hardly decide to speak to us now can he? The frustration is on losing out on another player because we seem to have a very rigid approach when it comes negotiations. Only time will tell if this strategy will be good for us or do damage by not having enough quality players.

edu did not transfer his contract over to the new rangers so why have we made a bid, surley it would be just a case of offering him a contract

Would be a great signing, not getting my hopes up with this one though. Think someone else may come in and offer a better deal. We shall see, but hope we have a plan B up our sleeves.

Davies is in a difficult position though. He has pretty much burned his bridges at Derby and Bristol City are the only club to meet Derby's valuation. However much Davies may have wanted to come here if Derby refuse to accept our bid thats it, he cannot talk to us! If Jewell wanted him as much as reported and if the fee is only six hundred thousand then its a shocking state of affairs at PR in my view. Yes I'm going to get FFP rules thrown at me but if we cannot compete at this level it shows a horrendous lack of ambition by the club and is not going to help in attracting the players we really need to strengthen the squad.

.....Back on subject, let's hope Edu is coming, whilst it would be harsh on either Hyam or Luongo to miss out we need more depth, more quality and a player better than you've already got can only be a good thing.
lawshallgirls added 14:04 - Aug 20
Don't really mind about missing out on Davies but edu would be a fantastic signing really hope a pull this off

ipswich61, you may not care many others may not also but the point is I didn't agree with you on Davies getting injured, as I'd said it's not his fault Derby didn't accept our offer.

On the BBC website McCoist said something different and I am not sure that it is clearcut that we have made an offer?

Although I would love Edu at PR, I think central midfield is the last department we need to spend on after watching Hyam, Luongo and Drury flourish in recent weeks. Our performance on Saturday once again highlighted our need for a centre back who wins everything in the air, especially at set pieces. A quick and direct winger to get in behind defences, as well as a taller version of Jason Scotland so we don't get bullied and have an aerial presence at both ends. Sunderland will have 5 centre backs when Wes Brown is back leaving Bramble surplus to requirements, although I'm not sure how financially viable this move would be. Adam Hammill is not wanted by Wolves, he has pace and is very effective down the wing at this level. With Davies gone to Brizzle city I would move for Jay Bothroyd. He would be a gamble due to his attitude but he has the physical attributes, pace, eye for a goal and understanding with Chopra to really thrive in our team. Plus QPR have about 7 strikers!!!

Edu could be the key signing for this season. As for that muppet wishing Davies gets injured - well,i'm guessing you've never played the game in any form.

RegencyBlue Have I missed something, the last I heard the fee was £1 Million. If its £600K then I like you would be disappionted but I havent seen that figure anywhere?

see http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16435828 for other interest. The article says that he signed a 5 year contract with Rangers in 2008 so presumably is still a Rangers player? With other targets getting off the hook not sure we have much chance here, but hopefully PJ and SC will get their man.

Ipswich61...if the 61 indicates you were born in 1961 that makes you either 50 or 51 so you really need to grow up, move out of your mums and get laid.

Hmmm well lets see (consults crystal ball), Town make an offer ...player waits to see if any other club comes to better this "offer" (shouldnt be hard knowing our past record ). Town wait for player to respond....and waits ........and yes , wait. Play er gets another offer from another Club (4p more than ours) has talks with other Club...Town "wait" a bit more and then look to new target. Problem is the transfer widnow now closes. Oh well there's always he loan market I suppose...and so the cylce goes on.
JewellintheTown added 14:33 - Aug 20
Doesnt sound from the articles I'm reading that he wants to come, more like he's decided he's leaving and to get the best offer. Not exactly chomping at the bit to come here. Not sure that attitude (If thats the case) is what we need, then again I dont think JET was particularly wanting to come here either but he seems to be a changed guy now.

Maurice a stint in Ipswich will do you good 'son' if Clegg offers you two bob and a green apple just think of the potential and eventual glory!!!!!!!!!!

He probably only had to hang on another 6 months and his contract is all but up ? and then he's a free agent this time next season.
