Peters Leaves Town
Thursday, 23rd Aug 2012 14:45

Canadian international Jaime Peters has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. TWTD revealed that the club were in talks with the 25-year-old’s representatives regarding ending his contract a fortnight ago.

Jewell said: “Jaime Peters has left, his contract has been terminated by mutual consent. We wish him well. It just hasn’t worked out for him while I’ve been here.

“We’ve got Carlos at right-back, Jack Ainsley and now Elliott Hewitt. In terms of wide players, we’ve got JET, Josh Carson and Lee Martin, and it was always going to be difficult for him to break in.

“He went to Bournemouth last year and had a month there. It’s not personal, it’s just every manager has a different opinion of different players.”

He knows some supporters will have been keen to see the versatile Ontario-born player stay at the club but the Blues boss says he didn’t fit into how he sees his team going forward: “I know he’s a bit of a fans’ favourite because when we brought him on at Leicester the fans were really pleased.

“But for whatever reason, he didn’t fit in to what we want to do. He’s a good lad, we’ve never had a second’s problem with him and I’m sure he’ll get a club. As I say, we wish him well.”

The player himself added: “I’d like to wish Ipswich Town all the best for the future.

“I have some good memories from my time at the club and always enjoyed a good relationship with the supporters, but it’s important at this stage of my career that I’m playing football, so it’s best if I move on.”

Peters, who was the club's longest-serving player, joined Town in 2005, having been on trial in 2004. He also spent time with Chelsea, Manchester United and Millwall before opting to join the Blues, a move which was delayed by red tape relating to his work permit.

Capped 26 times by his country, Peters made 71 starts and 43 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring four times. In addition to his time with the Cherries, he also had spells on loan at Yeovil and Gillingham while at Town.

In January, he was close to joining SPL side St Johnstone on loan but was prevented from doing so by the three club rule.

I am sad. Saw him play one game as attacking central midfielder and thought his power, vision and passion were exemplary. Never played there again. Weird.

I reckon he would be Ideal for Rangers (of Scotland) in their bid to return to the top tier.

Very disappointed that Canada's direct link to Town has gone. From Twamley to Forrest and Yallop and then to De Vos, it seems there has always been someone. Better sign Jackson now.

I cant believe he didn't get a game, he played unbelievably good in the CC semi final! He is mighty quick and he could play all over the pitch. Plus he's always Ipswich's only fast player on fifa!

Good man, great "heart", shame it hasn't worked out. However, I think this outcome is probably best for both parties. Best wishes for the future, Jaime, hope you find a good club to go to.

Good luck Jamie, always liked your pace and endeavour.

Great to see that PJ spelled it out as it is, he knows what a lot of fans think of JP and he acknowledged this .

PS like to see him at Col U could do a great job there and wouldn't have to move house!

All the best mate, looked a good prospect at one stage - maybe his confidence is now shot?

Good luck Jaime. How about returning to Toronto with Toronto FC and hook up with Paul Mariner and Reggie Lambe?

Lawshallgirls longest serving player now is Tommy Smith. Jim Magilton gave him his debut and no one else of the current squad played under him.

Good info village-blue. I find it fascinating that our current longest serving player is only 22.
We are rebuilding though and I am liking what I see so far.

Didnt JP come on against Scum the year they went down- took Thatcher's place and did really well?

Thought he should have been given a fairer crack of the whip considering that ITFC nurtured him and brought him on. Good luck in your future endeavours Jaime !
