Edwards Hopeful He Could Face Huddersfield
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 13:04

Skipper Carlos Edwards says the groin injury which forced him off early in the Capital One Cup defeat at Carlisle is improving. The Trinidadian is hopeful he’ll be able to take his regular place at right-back in Saturday’s home game against Huddersfield.

Edwards told the club site: “The injury is settling down faster that I first thought but obviously it is still early days and I don’t want to aggravate it.

“I’m sure I will sit down with the manager and the physio over the next couple of days to make a decision on it.

“We have the international break coming up, so obviously I don’t want to further injure myself ahead of the break, but I’m hoping I can be fit.

"We will see what happens over the next day or so, but it the end it will be up to the gaffer.”

If Edwards fails to make it Jack Ainsley looks likely to start with summer signing Elliott Hewitt still sidelined having undergone hip impingement operations while with Macclesfield.

The Wales U21 international is close to a return to full training and is likely to be available late in September.

Meanwhile, new signing Guirane N’Daw was in training with the Blues squad for the first time at Playford Road this morning.

can chambers play right-back? smith and delaney worked ok together at the end of last year, might be a better option if edwards doesn't make it...

I do not trust Jack Ainsley at right back. Get Chambers there. We should of kept Peters!

I've not seen enough of Ainsley to comment, but by all account he's not quite good enough yet (will he ever be?), so maybe it would be worth putting Chambers on the right with Smith and Delaney in the centre?

Wouldn't do Jack's confidence any good mind. Is there a clearer way of saying "you're not good enough, but you're on the bench because we haven't got anyone else"?

Carlos getting injured really makes me question the wisdom of letting peters go ...

Ainsley woeful against Carlisle, Hewitt not yet fit. Another loan signing or could someone else fill in for a match or two at right back.....Lee Martin???

Disagree. seen Ainsley play a few times and he has done very little wrong. Playing him will give him experience and confidence. Thought most on here exclaimed that we do not let our youth policy come through !!
