Palace Linked With Delaney Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 15:57 Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Damien Delaney, who is a free agent having left Town by mutual consent earlier today.
TWTD revealed that the South London club were again showing interest in the Irishman back in July.
Palace previously targeted the 31-year-old in January 2011 when they made a joint £800,000 bid for him along with ex-skipper David Norris.

Surely it would have made sense to hold out til the end of the window, and if no one made a bid for him then terminate his contract?

Or even let him go on a free and pay up none of his contract?

This could be a blessing in disguise: 2008-Delaney leaves Hull-Hull promoted end of the season. 2009-Delaney leaves QPR-QPR Promoted 2 years later. in all seriousness, he was an average CB at this level. Never great, but nowhere near as bad as many on here said. Surely we must have 2 new CB's about to sign?

Can't wait until we play Palace. If he's as bad for them as he was for us sometimes our strikers (assuming we still have any) will have a field day.

The funniest thing about it all is that Keane signed him as a left back and he was awful !! He was an average centre back at best another £750,000 wasted by Keane and we wonder why Evans wont waste any more money £10 million plus on signing on fee alone on Fulop,Mac ,Norris ,Leadbitter,Priskin,Delaney and a big fat zero back for them !!!

We don't seem to be able to sign players and now players want out! What is going on? This all adds up to a season of struggle. But hey ho this is what we have come to expect after past few seasons.

he was on his way before keane came. Magilton signed him/wanted him and keane didnt refuse him coming when magic left

At this rate of knots players going (Delaney and Stevenson) we might not be able to field a team on Sat. ?????? especially with the injuries we have picked up!!! So Jewellio you will have no time to go to bed tonight trying to get a team together for Sat. It is a pity that the international break was not this week ????

I hate being negative but I must admit I feel really down ,at the moment.I hear a lot of bad comment about Paul Jewel but What is really happening at this club.We sell Jordan for next to nothing.Paul Jewel says he has loads of players at Portman road but they don't sign.Macaulay and Norris leave for nothing. There was a report that Evans was taking part in the negotiations for the posh pair. Then there was the Portsmouth players. It seems to me that the finger of suspicion must surely point at Evans and Clegg

Crystal Palace.. the place where old Ipswich Town players go when they're past. Wright, Garvan, Price, Counago and now Delaney.
rob_good added 16:48 - Aug 30
Why did'nt they sell him instead of releasing him , could of got 500k for him

At this rate will will have to bring in the youngsters from the Academy. Oh, it's what some of you on here wanted when we were signing Bullard etc

It sounds like we paid Delaney to leave then. So we're down to two centre backs: Smith and Chambers?! Very worrying times at Portman Road.

Can't believe this - as stated players out of contract are not affected by the transfer deadline. You always re-stock first prior to removing/letting go of waste. Anyone with an ounce of business acumen knows this. I am not PJs biggest fan but he is not the culprit here and I feel sorry for him. Unless miracles happen between now and 11pm we are going to struggle big time. Those going on Saturday should take their boots just in case!!!

Delaney is still a decent back up player who is not a midget. He can't pass water but a good stopper . Very surprised we.ve allowed him to leave without replacements . What is going on ???

Glad he's out the door..at least some good news this week.

Now all we have to do is get rid of Carlos and Tommy and we will have a really solid defence! Delaney was not great but no worse than Smith. Unlike Bullard at least he gave all he had for the club ( limited as that was ).

If we don't sign anyone at least we don't have to put up with delaneys inept performances
