Old Boy Bramble First Link of Deadline Day
Old Boy Bramble First Link of Deadline Day
Friday, 31st Aug 2012 09:34

The final day of the transfer window has got off to an early start with a report on Wearside claiming Town could be interested in taking former central defender Titus Bramble on loan from Sunderland. The window closes at 11pm this evening

Rumours regarding a possible Bramble return first surfaced on Twitter yesterday, although not from sources which appeared particularly convincing.

Even if there is anything in the Blues’ interest, it’s said Sunderland are unlikely to allow the 31-year-old to move on with Wes Brown currently injured.

Another former Blue currently with the Black Cats, Connor Wickham, could move out on loan today with a number of Championship clubs and one Premier League side believed to be interested.

Despite Town having first refusal on the 19-year-old if he were to move on loan, Blues boss Paul Jewell has consistently played down his interest this summer, citing the proportion of Wickham's wages Town would have to meet. The signings of Daryl Murphy and Paul Taylor yesterday would suggest that the recruitment of another striker is unlikely in any case.

Elsewhere, reports in Huddersfield say Town’s 10% sell-on clause will net them an additional windfall of around £700,000 from the sale of Jordan Rhodes to Blackburn. That takes the overall fee received to somewhere around the £1.5 million mark.

Contrary to widespread reports earlier in the week which claimed Huddersfield would receive an initial £4.5 million and the rest in top-ups, it appears the Terriers have received a guaranteed £8 million fee for the ex-Blues frontman plus a sell-on.

Blues boss Paul Jewell is holding his regular pre-match press conference at lunchtime when there is likely to be news of progress as he continues to look to add to his squad.

How can we know what the additional windfall will net us in total until such time he moves on from Blackburn? If Huddersfield are getting a guaranteed £8 million plus a sell-on, then that sell-on is part of the fee they receive for him, and therefore would still be subject to our percentage surely?

If he does well for Blackburn and then someone like Liverpool does an Andy Carrollesque swoop for something silly like £35 million, then Huddersfield would get a percentage of that profit and we in turn should still get 10% of their windfall too as it would still be part of the fee they receive for him.

Why the negativity about Bramble? He wouldn't have played consistently in the Premier League if he was no good. I would have him back in an instant. Can't think of anyone else better that we would have a serious chance of getting.

@hoppy- after receiving our 700k we will not get another penny if Blackburn
sell him on, it will only be Huddersfield that will get a slice of any other deal.

Wouldn't surprise me if Wickham did turn up later today on a loan deal. Jewell himself said we needed a target man and if it isn't Connor then surely someone else. I wonder if Chops may be going out the door as he has caused a few headaches and not produced the goods. I really can't see Chops and Taylor in the same side.

Because the bins are too small for his backside. As for Bramble better than what we have.

I loved old Bramble when he was with us. Especially when he scored that amazing goal. I was in the north stand that day. Brilliant.

BUT - I have to say that it would now be a very very backward move to have him back. He has far too much baggage and his best footballing days are behind him. Please dont bring him back.

I am sure with regards to Jordan that a sell-on clause is on applicable to the next sale, i.e Huddersfield to Blackburn, unless otherwise stated in the contract of sale, which of course we will have no idea if this is the case. On Bramle, would take him as cover with Delaney now gone, but I dont think he should play in front of Smith or Chambers, especially if on loan. COYB

Not anymore. he seems to end up in court at least once a season, and isn't the player he was.

We need a big strong commanding centre back and Bramble will give us that.
He just needs to be kept out of the nightclubs and off the drink then he's a pretty reliable player on the pitch
