Jewell Doesn't Expect Any Deadline Day Deals
Friday, 31st Aug 2012 13:08

Blues boss Paul Jewell says he doesn’t expect to sign any more players before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Jewell, who has added Guirane N’Daw, Paul Taylor and Daryl Murphy to his squad, but doesn’t expect any further additions before the provision to bring in loan players is open to Football League clubs next week: “We’ve made numerous phonecalls and tried to do deals for other players which haven’t quite happened yet, which happens because the Premier League is still trading until 12 o’clock tonight and if they get the players they want, we might be able to get some players from the Premier League clubs [on loan] until January.

“I don’t think we’re going to bring anyone in today, but maybe after the window opens next week we’ll bring in some more players to the club.”

He says that despite reports to the contrary earlier, there is nothing currently happening with Peterborough’s George Boyd: “We spoke with him, I met with the lad and for different reasons the deal couldn’t be done.

“It’s one that could possibly be revisited as time goes along, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Meanwhile, Jewell says there has been no interest in any of his players - other than Ryan Stevenson who is in talks regarding a free transfer to Hearts - but would like to send some of his youngsters, including Ronan Murray, out on loan.

if i'm right in thinking n'dawe can play midfield or cb jewell might think about using that option lacking height and maybe switch smith to rb as cover for edwards

this isn't a bluff itfc.co.uk says that Jewell will sign in the loan window with the view to make loanings permanent.

To let your only covering centre back go is at best incompitent and at worst blatantly negligent! I really hope that short term loans are not the answer to what PJ himself has identified repeatedly as a major problem for us.

It does make you wonder if the blind do really lead the blind at this club now.

You lot are just unbelievable! We have done great business this transfer window, reduced the average age of team and squad over the summer, and upgraded wherever we have brought in players. Signings like Loach, Chambers, Luongo, N'Daw, Taylor... and Murphy coming back despite his wages being far more than we can afford (Celtic will be subsidising him a third time!) - they are all positive steps.

Now as we have so many midfielders pj will just play a bigger diamond and hope the numbers in midfield can stop the opposition getting at our under power defence

Coming after losing 6 goals last weekend this does not bode well. It seems that we have lost Carlos for tomorrow and there is a growing concern about Cresswell's form and we are down to the bare bones at CB. While few will moan about the players brought in we may well come to rue the failure of the club to understand what priorities were this summer.

Linhdi - agree on the good business - that does not cover over the fact that we have 2 out and out centre backs at the club (unless we have a young starlet coming through I dont know of) to be honest at Blackpool the whole back 4 were torn to pieces long balls over the top with strickers on the shoulders of the defenders leaves you having a heart attack everytime!! They did that to us in the second half of the home game last season - you would thought we may have learned but that's a whole different debate.

Langdon Blue - The problem is if the player no longer wants to play for us they may play rubbish to make a point (Robbie Savage at Birmingham when he wanted to go to Blackburn.........to be closer to his family)

Are we about to settle Chopra's contract?

Why buy an identical player from Posh when we have a mickey mouse back four? How many years have we not had two competent CB's?

5 years....?

You really should feel sorry for Loach, just got here and could well be getting a bad back picking that ball up from the back of the net! and its not going to get any better with no back line to help him!
This has to be the worst run club ever, unbelievable what has happened the year, but like a complete fool i shall continue being true blue!

So if I am right, we have some petty mediocre cb's and only 3 of them.

We let 1 of them go for absolutely nothing (yet again!!) who then, less than 24 hours later signs for a club who were willing to pay around £400K a year ago.

So that leaves us with 2 cb's for the rest of the season with loan signings hopefully coming in (that worked last year didnt it!!) so they can earn a move somewhere else if they play well and go back to their fat premier league wage if they are rubbish.

Wasn't it pj who said at the start of the summer that loan players wernt the answer, either the club have pulled the rug under his feet or he's just failed to bring the players in we need.

I am worried now for the season, we look woefully short in a number of areas and could struggle now.

total buffoon.i havent wanted jewell sacked for stability reasons but if we dont get atleast 1CB in before the deadline then its total lunacy! 2 CBs that have shipped 10 goals in 5 games with no cover? at what other club would you have that situation? send for the men in white coats, hes lost it big time!
