Jewell Doesn't Expect Any Deadline Day Deals
Friday, 31st Aug 2012 13:08

Blues boss Paul Jewell says he doesn’t expect to sign any more players before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Jewell, who has added Guirane N’Daw, Paul Taylor and Daryl Murphy to his squad, but doesn’t expect any further additions before the provision to bring in loan players is open to Football League clubs next week: “We’ve made numerous phonecalls and tried to do deals for other players which haven’t quite happened yet, which happens because the Premier League is still trading until 12 o’clock tonight and if they get the players they want, we might be able to get some players from the Premier League clubs [on loan] until January.

“I don’t think we’re going to bring anyone in today, but maybe after the window opens next week we’ll bring in some more players to the club.”

He says that despite reports to the contrary earlier, there is nothing currently happening with Peterborough’s George Boyd: “We spoke with him, I met with the lad and for different reasons the deal couldn’t be done.

“It’s one that could possibly be revisited as time goes along, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Meanwhile, Jewell says there has been no interest in any of his players - other than Ryan Stevenson who is in talks regarding a free transfer to Hearts - but would like to send some of his youngsters, including Ronan Murray, out on loan.

Right now it seems our best formation is a wide 3 4 3 or 3 5 2... However I do have a sneaky suspicion we have a surprise coming our way before midnight (and no, hopefully not Cresswell has been sold)

And it is not good enough if he is planning on getting CB's in on loan next week! It appears he still hasn't learnt anything from last season! And we are all consigned to Div One next season when he gets paid off to go back on the telly!!

I refuse to believe that he hasnt got at least a CB lined up before window closes, i would be far from happy if we have to rely on a loanee or two until January. Unless he has somebody in mind but doesnt want to alert other clubs by naming the player in a press conference?! Although i do still believe that PJ has an air of cleverness about him, call me crazy but to me look at what ME is doing, we are slowly signing the necessary players PJ has got the players fitter and hungrier and ME and PJ are clearing the squad of players who are just hanging around wanting to see out their contracts that have little chance of making the difference the team needs. I can at least see what we're trying to do which is encouraging and i still feel optimistic about the season but we DO need those defenders in.

"We have one game tomorrow and then nothing for two weeks. So the thinking would have to be that we scrape through tomorrow with 2CBs and then have two weeks to sort the problem out?"...

Just how long does the management need to sort out much needed cover/first choice CBs?

The two weeks AFTER the transfer window closes is not the time to sort out the most needy part of the squad.

Just what are the priorities needed to be sorted out when you ship 6 goals against one of your main contenders for promotion? Let me think...

I don't foresee any permanent signings today and they would not be able to play tomorrow anyway. I believe loans can play tomorrow but that won't happen until next week. What galls me is that PJ categorically stated loans was not the way forward yet we are in a situation now where there is no alternative. He has known for months that our central defence is not good enough, but again he has not remedied the situation. I won't slag Jewell off but he does make a rod for his own back with his comments that backfire. Ainsley at full back is a joke and as for protecting Smith I don't have an answer if NDaw is not match fit. It's all very well thinking there is plenty of time to remedy the situation but this should have been done weeks ago. Perhaps people will not think the same tomorrow night if we find ourselves in the bottom 3 or 4. All very frustrating for us fans who really care.

The real truth of the statement is that none of our players are sought after by any one else other than a scottish never was going to be.

That shows how bad our squad is ..... no-one wants them!

Did he not say the loan window opens next week? Or are you all too stupid to actually read the article and just read headlines?

A defeat tomorrow and I want to see Jewell gone. The new manager (Klug / Robinson / Davies) will then have two weeks to work with, assess and formulate the squad as well as having the loan window open for moves with an option to by at the end. Useful to get Boyd finally in and sort out some defenders. It's getting beyond a joke now.

Well there's me thinking 1 cover CB was bad but this is just crazy. I hope he's bluffing, in a way i wish he didn't hold this press conference, it's boring now!

He must be playing mind games. If no centre backs are about to sign today then surely he would have held onto Delaney until we had proper cover sorted when the loan window opens....

If this is true and either CB gets injured or sent off in the first 5 mins tomorrow, then what??

Wickedblue I think u are the stupid 1 if u think loan signings are ok when he said that wasn't the way forward! We been long term signings u muppet! JEWELL OUT!!!!!!!!!

Duncan added 15:01 - Aug 31
No centre backs coming in today - worried much - yes I am!!! I suppose Delaney didn't want to play for us anymore and that's why he left - I really hope so because if this was a management decision it now looks a shocker

Meanwhile, Jewell says there has been no interest in any of his players . Surprise Surprise!!!!
Why not let a couple of CBs go as clearly you have a masterplan up your sleeve.

Langdon_Blue added 15:11 - Aug 31
Duncan - I see you point, however even if Delaney didn't want to stay, we still shouldn't release him until a replacement has been signed. Particularly when he plays in a position we are already light on players in.

If ever Evans and Clegg needed proof that they got the wrong man then this is surely it.
No CB cover and lets Delaney go, pure madness.
