Jewell Doesn't Expect Any Deadline Day Deals
Friday, 31st Aug 2012 13:08

Blues boss Paul Jewell says he doesn’t expect to sign any more players before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Jewell, who has added Guirane N’Daw, Paul Taylor and Daryl Murphy to his squad, but doesn’t expect any further additions before the provision to bring in loan players is open to Football League clubs next week: “We’ve made numerous phonecalls and tried to do deals for other players which haven’t quite happened yet, which happens because the Premier League is still trading until 12 o’clock tonight and if they get the players they want, we might be able to get some players from the Premier League clubs [on loan] until January.

“I don’t think we’re going to bring anyone in today, but maybe after the window opens next week we’ll bring in some more players to the club.”

He says that despite reports to the contrary earlier, there is nothing currently happening with Peterborough’s George Boyd: “We spoke with him, I met with the lad and for different reasons the deal couldn’t be done.

“It’s one that could possibly be revisited as time goes along, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Meanwhile, Jewell says there has been no interest in any of his players - other than Ryan Stevenson who is in talks regarding a free transfer to Hearts - but would like to send some of his youngsters, including Ronan Murray, out on loan.

PJ's mentality is obviously we'll score more than you, but if we get a few injuries towards our back line then we'll have to score 6 or 7. Really thought we'd get a back up CB at least today with Delaney with all the players we were supposedly linked with last night. Yesterday was a positive today is a minus which seems to be the way things go at Portman Road now days.

Not going to lie, I would very dissapointed if we don't sign any defenders?
I'm happy with are attacking lines but defensivly all we have is Smith ad Chambers.
No team is going to go 46 games with just two defenders. PJ you and your coaching staff need to get the best out of these players. I'm expecting Jet to do something tomorrow another poor performance could see him drop to the bench.

yes we all jknow we need a centre back or three that aside taylor is the type ofplayer we have needed for awhile now and think this will be shot in the arm we need attack wise we may actually keep teams more on the back foot. when u look at all signings egchambers loach hewitt luongo taylor ndaw and murphy jewell is taking us in a positive direction fingers crossed for wilson or st ledger

This just ain't funny anymore. Seeing other championship clubs making some good signings and loan deals and we are being left behind. Letting DD go without organising a replacement first is utter incompetence - ITFC please prove me wrong in the next 2 hours.

Only having 2 centrebacks is far from ideal and at worst we must get one on loan as soon as window opens. Sods law means one of Smith or Chambers will get injured or sent off early in match tomorrow, poor decision by the club but hopefully they have the loanee sorted out.
Talking of loanees, Jewell said he wants loanees with a view to a permanent deal, i have a feeling Boyd will be a loanee signing!

.... should any sane mind have any confidence left at all that Jewell knows what he is doing ? - surely not.

Derby supporters summed him up very well - and they have proved beyond doubt to be correct.

I get the feeling that he either doesn't recognise the DIRE situation of our defence, or he just doesn't care a hoot.
Either should be totally unacceptable to us ALL.

here we go, comments made without any thought going into them, just as with the posh pair collapse story. when will you people learn to think before you just spout the same old lets slag pj, etc. the fact is he will be looking for loan players with the option of a permanent deal at the end of the loan period or at minimum a season long loan as with luongo. had we signed anyone today, unless they signed before midday, wouldnt be eligible to play tomorrow anyway, so may as well get tomorrows game out of the way, then got 2 weeks to bring in the defenders we need. like every1 else, before i get accused of burying my head in the sand, am concerned that we need to strengthen the defence asap, but am willing to give pj & co the benefit of the doubt in the hope its all in hand. plus of course n'daw can play at centre back so there is cover there temporarily if required
