Curbs Would Talk to Town
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 11:14

Former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has said he would talk to the Blues if they wanted to speak to him. The 54-year-old is understood to be someone Town owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg see as a potential boss at Portman Road.

Curbishley told Sky Sports News: “I am available, obviously, and if they want to talk to me, I would talk to them.”

He says he’s surprised to see that his name is already up there amongst the favourites: “I am amazed when you look at the betting and I am up there with the frontrunners.

“Ipswich have been inundated with people who would like that job and I think they have a very important decision to make.

“The last two or three years have been tough as they have been in decline a little bit,” he added. “They have to take their time, sift through the people that are available and come up with the right answer.”

Curbishley’s long-time assistant Mervyn Day, who is currently working as a scout for Fulham, was at Tuesday’s home game against Derby and has also been at Portman Road for previous games this season.

Meanwhile, Town are remaining tight-lipped regarding developments on their search for a new boss with Clegg having said earlier in the week that he is hopeful a new man could be in place before next Saturday's game at Birmingham.

Considering that he has been available for a couple of years its quite big of him to say that he is willing to talk to us.

1. Owen Coyle
2. Billy Davis
3. Mick McCarthy

or bring back BFJ!

Certainly no to Shearer or Burley, Curbs does not seem too enthuastic and has been out of football too long!

The more i think about it the more i think Mick McCarthy. I know he isnt Mr Personality but he has taken two teams out of this league, he builds hard to beat sides and he would give some people a swift kick up the backside.
At this moment in tiem i just think he might be what we need.
Second choice Billy Davies
If Cotterill or Megson come anywhere near the place god help us.

id like us to go for some crazy south american no ones ever heard of and bring in loads of sixto peralta esq players!
or an eastern european and bring in some 7ft serbian defenders so we can build a team with some kind of backbone!

I think Ronnie Moore would be a good choice. Did a good job at Rotherham and now Tranmere. I agree with everybody who do not want Curbishley. If not then Taricco would be a good choice. I know that he played for ITFC, but I don't think that's a problem.

Curb your enthusiasm, Alan. Your hunger for the job is overwhelming me.

All 'talk' and 'media' have turned too many people in the game into sycophants, so be weary of those that are 'full of it' - talk is cheap these days, and so is ostensible enthusiasm. I'd rather that the next man to rule over Portman Road be considered, thorough, genuine, and have a deeper understanding of running a football club, with a good philosophy for firm but fare nurturing of talent. Hmmm...can't say i've ever heard anyone call Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger enthusistic, but then I wouldn't take fools gladly...and neither do they... and more the point, neither does Alan Curbishely!

The more mature managers names being bounded around- and after looking at the managers records on wiki, Burley is looking more and more attractive!!! He has a better win% record than mccarthy etc and thats not including the scottish league games where he has 75 %.
Would rather younger but would have Burley over Megson, Mccarthy, Curbishley any day!!!

Mick McCarthy showing 4/7 on Skybet. Like or lump those odds suggest it is a done deal.

I can the danger of falling between two stools here. It may well be that the best manager to keep us up is not necessarily the best one to take us forward after that. I think McCarthy would be the best for the former job. I think an up and coming manager with 3 or 4 years broad experience for the second.
All in all I'd gamble on Billy Davies - but I don't envy Evans making this decision. His past record doesn't fill me with confidence!

I have it on good authority that McCarthy was spoken to today. Not much of a surprise but thought you'd all like to know.

ok so my choice is william davies, but i dont understand people having a downer on curbs as i think he WAS a good manager- i remember how we couldnt get past charlton in playoffs his tactics outdone us over two legs, charlton thought hed taken em as far as he could and look what happened once he left!! i certainly would not be disapointed with him as our manager or big mick- dont really think we can gamble on the likes of karl robinson/shearer/di canio/moore etc as these bosses are unproven at this level and we are in a perilous posistion.
curbs has always been an understated type of guy- and i still remember that 2-1 win at old trafford last game of season(tevez) to keep west ham up he masterminded! so hey if hes got the hunger........

Whoever is given the next managers job at our beloved club, I can guarantee he will not be given the full support by our fickle fans.

We as supporters have an important part to play in wether we are relegated or gain a creditable mid table position. I love this club and may not like certain players or management but in 50 years of supporting this club I will still be here when others are gone. BLUE ARMY......Cheer the lads onto the first win of the season tomorrow.

I have always liked Curbishley, he did extremely well at a simular size club in Charlton. He's my number one choice.

Guys I wouldnt get too worked up by the betting markets, they are always up and down depending on the latest rumour and are renouned for getting it wrong often than not.

However putting all that to one side, saturdays game is now massive and were desperate for a result so we need a win!!

Hahahahaha! Audley Harrison, just the name makes me laugh - at least he can teach the players to hit the floor in the penalty area quickly, he'd rack up some penalties over a season!
