Interviews Taking Place
Tuesday, 30th Oct 2012 11:38

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has confirmed that he and owner Marcus Evans have drawn up their shortlist and that interviews with those candidates are currently taking place.

Clegg told the club site that Town had received a large amount of interest from both home and abroad: “We received a number of applications for the manager’s position from many well respected names in football.

“Having sifted through the applicants, we have now drawn up our shortlist and interviews are under way.”

Former Wolves, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Millwall boss Mick McCarthy is the leading contender and strong favourite - betting has been suspended by some bookies - to take over from Paul Jewell, who left by mutual agreement last week, but we understand the appointment is by no means yet a fait accompli.

Ex-Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is understood to be interested in the role and former England skipper Alan Shearer was spoken to last week, while Blackpool manager Ian Holloway was linked over the weekend.

<<Look back at previous managers, the best ones came here unkown and became great. Our record of success with so called 'proven' or 'experienced' managers is not impressive. >>
Ah! but that was when we had the Cobbolds in charge. A crisis to Mr John was when the white wine ran out in the boardroom. We were a 'nice' club then - management and fans respected each other. During the off season the likes of Phillips, Crawford, Elsworthy et al used to go working on the Cobbolds' farms - even stone picking. If ever there has been a better exmple of a family breakdown I can't think of one. Such a shame that the beautiful game is so horribly ugly these days.

The most exciting of times in the last 21 months, 'cos apart from West Ham at home, lets face it, its been mighty dull!

ivandeighton. the only suggestion on easdt that negotiations have hit a stumbling block is by the eadt reporter who as clegg has stated it unlikely an appointment to be announced today, has put 2 & 2 together & made 5. why take notice of anything the eadt write? its normally nonsense. the reason i suspect no announcement will be made today is that the interview process is not yet complete

What IS interesting is that Harry Redknapp has just been on Sky from his home in Bournemouth. He said he was desperate to get back into work (getting bored of golf) and would think about being the manager of a Championship club - but ruled himself out of the Blackburn position. Why is ME and SC not interviewing the guy?

Thought we would have heard something by now.!! Certainly is a long drawn out process !I am of the opinion that the appointment has already been made. They are just waiting to release his name.Whoever it is I really hope that Matt Holland features in some capacity.

Kevin Bond, who worked as assistant manager under Redknapp at Spurs, was in the stands for Town's woeful 3-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday and one school of thought is that Bond or former Tottenham coach Joe Jordan might take over the full-time reins at Portman Road with Redknapp in a part-time or director of football role

interesting fans comment on sky sports
"As a Wolves supporter, I will genuinely say, Ipswich could do an awful lot worse than sign Mick McArthy as manager. The only issue is that, as the Sunderland faithful will confirm, He will get you promoted to the Premiership, but he will struggle to keep you there. As for that other Muppet, Curbishley, whose smug face is smirking out of a photo alongside the article; remember, this guy applied for the vacant Wolves post after MM left; Was interviewed, given the job, accepted it, waited a week and then changed his mind. In so doing he dropped Wolves right back in to the mire and almost guaranteed us relegation. I wouldn't let him through the gates of any football ground in Britain, let alone entertain the notion of appointing him as manager!"

Gary Megson with Bryan Gunn as his number two and Ian Crook to take over the academy.

Oh! and to emulate Cardiff we will no longer wear blue but have a pink home kit.

Well well, the Harry spin and interview creates new hope....Look at the circumstances :
1. Harry Wants to manage England - Most 2 successful England managers previously managed Ipswich.
2. Bond in the Crowd for the last game
3. Mates with Marcus
4. We are if nothing else INTERESTING at the moment. (as Harry says if something interesting comes along)
5. Would give him cult status to save us and progress us.
6. Harry enjoys a challenge and that we are at the moment.
7. Chance to build a club from the ground up.

All that said i am sure it will be MM, but here's hoping for big Harry......
