Interviews Taking Place
Tuesday, 30th Oct 2012 11:38

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has confirmed that he and owner Marcus Evans have drawn up their shortlist and that interviews with those candidates are currently taking place.

Clegg told the club site that Town had received a large amount of interest from both home and abroad: “We received a number of applications for the manager’s position from many well respected names in football.

“Having sifted through the applicants, we have now drawn up our shortlist and interviews are under way.”

Former Wolves, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Millwall boss Mick McCarthy is the leading contender and strong favourite - betting has been suspended by some bookies - to take over from Paul Jewell, who left by mutual agreement last week, but we understand the appointment is by no means yet a fait accompli.

Ex-Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is understood to be interested in the role and former England skipper Alan Shearer was spoken to last week, while Blackpool manager Ian Holloway was linked over the weekend.

Who ever it may be it is important for the board, players and most importantly us fans to get behind the guy and his team and cheer us on to survival.

It is strongly looking like McCarthy, who I would welcome to the club as I'd have confidence in him sorting us out and saving us from the drop. Holloway would be a great choice too, so I like the two favourites.

LATEST BEST ODDS
McCarthy 1/5
Holloway 5/1
Burley 12/1
Curbishley 14/1
Megson 20/1
Coyle 20/1
Yallop 25/1
33/1 bar

maybe things have been kept quiet for this long , because there was a late entrant to the applications - Holloway?

Would make sense to interview from a short list, not just approach their number one target. Mccarthy fits the bill, given our situation. But holloway, curbs, redknapp, davies or coyle would also be good choices. As much as i'd like Robinson, tisdale or other up and coming ones, i'm pretty sure they'll go for someone more experienced, which i can understand given the state we're in.

Can't believe they're taking so long. Listened to 2 hours of drivel on radio Suffolk this morning in 100% expectation of an announcement. Maybe they're going to leave it till next season ....

Holloway comes a cross as a decent bloke a fans man I would say, but his record does not stack up against Mc Carthy, he is the man for me.

I don't say much when the sh*t hits the fan with managers... But i usually find myself mentioning Hoddle at least once.

I'd love to see him at Ipswich. Exactly the right mix of craft and guile, pride and talent. I think we need a big footballing brain at ITFC.

And don't let's anyone start talking about faith healers and other rot, just think about how good a player and coach he proved himself to be- and not just in terms of achievements, think about the philosophy. He'd be perfect.

This is good news. Not inspired by McCarthy, just see that as another short term solution. May keep us up but far from convinced this is the way forward.

Much is written on here about 5 year plans and development, cannot see that from Mick.

Look back at previous managers, the best ones came here unkown and became great. Our record of success with so called 'proven' or 'experienced' managers is not impressive.

So we wait and see and hope whoever it is brings us what we want.

The big question remians, can they unite the fans. In over 20 years at Portman road I have never know so much negativity.

Whoever comes and whatever your own opinion it's time for the fans to support a solution and stop being part of the problem.

If this isn't sorted by Saturday, can we get rid of Hutchins and install Klug as caretaker? Clearly the players won't play fro CH so the sooner out the better.

I believe I did very well in the interview this morning. I had a clear plan but Simon did look a little worried when I said that I would like to sack the C E.
I am now looking for a number 2 and will appoint Eamon Holmes as the fitness coach.

Done a write up about McCarthy being appointed last night expecting it to be finalised this morning, silly me!, may still happen though. Both McCarthy and Holloway sound good choices but we will see I guess
