Wickham Linked With Return
Wednesday, 7th Nov 2012 13:52

Town boss Mick McCarthy wants to bring ex-Blues frontman Connor Wickham back to Portman Road on loan, according to reports in the North-East. Wickham joined Sunderland, the club McCarthy managed for three years until 2006, in the summer of 2011 for an initial fee of £8.1 million but has rarely featured for the Black Cats.

Wearsiders' boss Martin O’Neill is understood to be willing to allow Wickham to move out on loan with McCarthy said to have been interested in the England U21 international during his time at Wolves.

Former Blues manager Paul Jewell all but ruled out a move for Wickham in the summer due to the proportion of his wages Town, who have first refusal on the 21-year-old if he were to be sent out on loan, would be required to pay.

Earlier this week, McCarthy played down the chances of any immediate further loan additions to his squad with eight players already at the club on that basis.

Six of that total — Richie Wellens, Stephen Henderson, Massimo Luongo, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell and Bilel Mohsni — are domestic loans with only five permitted in a matchday squad.

Blackburn Rovers and Wolves are also reported to be interested in Wickham, who has made just six starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring one goal, since moving to Wearside.

Initial reaction: "Another loan, really?"
Considered response: "We're bottom of the table. Ok, let's bring him in."

do it, I'm sure we can ditch a few of the other loans. Either on the right wing or up front the guy is monster

SEANSON SAVING MOVE.

Tell Clegg that despite the wages we would have to pay, League 1 would be the end of the world.

We don't have six home players on loan. Wellens has left the building (for now).

I think a goal keeper , 2 central defenders and a right back are a far bigger proirty unless he can score at least 6 goals a game!

This would be a brilliant deal if true, not just for us, but for Wickham too.
I feel sorry for him the way his career has stalled since his big money move and it just seems unbelievable that he can't get in a Sunderland squad that can't seem to buy a goal.
Get it done!

It wont happen, Clegg would never pay the wages, however it might show supporters just how much support MM has been promised.

Loach
Hewitt-Chambers-Mohsni-Cresswell
Wellens-Reo Coker
JET Martin
Chopra-Wickham

IN FEBRUARY, or around that. I think this would be an excellent team. Hopefully. Chopra at his best is NPC class, and Wellens and ReoCoker would make a brilliant duo in midfield. Still worries in defence, and not so sure on Mohsni as Ive never seen him.
And btw, get rid of Drury/Murphy as quickly as possible, most average league 1 players Ive seen for some time. We need quality, pace and HUNGER

But I do honestly think that would be a good team, thoughts?
