Murphy Enjoying Partnership With Campbell
Wednesday, 14th Nov 2012 06:00

Striker Daryl Murphy says he’s enjoying playing up front with loanee DJ Campbell. The duo were both on target in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Burnley at Portman Road having initially been paired up in new manager Mick McCarthy’s first game, the 1-0 win at Birmingham in which Campbell netted the only goal.

The former Sunderland man remembers the on-loan QPR striker’s performance in a 2006 FA Cup tie in which he helped create a famous upset against a Black Cats side then managed by McCarthy.

Murphy, who wasn’t involved in that game, said: “DJ is poacher. [Sunderland] played against him when he was at Brentford and he scored a couple of goals against us and that got him his big move [to Birmingham].

“I know what a good player he is. He is just what you need around the box. He is always moving and sniffing out tap-ins. We work well together and created a few chances for each other.”

Campbell’s spell with Town ends on Saturday 5th January, while 29-year-old Murphy’s third period on loan with the Blues is up at the season’s close when both players will be out of contract.

We have been crying out for a target man up front and a decent right-back for the whole of the Keane and Jewell regimes. It seems McCarthy has identified these and is starting to put them right within two weeks of joining us! Hopefully Murphy and Edwards, played in their proper positions, can one again show us they are decent players.

Murphy is doing a lot of talking to the press. Has he become the new players spokesman or is he desperately trying to talk himself into a contract at the end of the season?

Or maybe it's one interview that bits are taken from to make a few shorter rather than one longer story?

He did press on Friday pre-match and again afterwards.

Maybe he is the only one with an ounce of Media skill, you get the feeling a couple of our players would either say something stupid, or just not say very much at all.
