Town Confirm Nouble Signing
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2013 14:12

Town have confirmed that striker Frank Nouble has signed from Wolves for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old, who will wear the number 35 shirt, has put pen to paper on an 18-month deal.

The 6ft 3in tall Londoner began his career with Chelsea’s youth set-up before joining West Ham in 2009.

While with the Hammers, he spent spells on loan at West Brom, Swindon, Swansea, Barnsley, Charlton, Gillingham and Barnsley again.

England U17 and U19 international - who also qualifies for the Ivory Coast via his parents - made only six starts and 13 sub appearances while at Upton Park, scoring just the one senior goal.

In the summer he moved on a free transfer to Wolves, signing a two-year deal, but has made only two sub appearances in the Championship, in addition to one start, two games from the bench and one goal in the Capital One Cup.

Overall, he has made 41 senior starts and 33 sub appearances for his various clubs, scoring nine goals.

Nouble would appear to be a direct replacement for former loanee Tyrone Barnett, whose spell from Peterborough was cut short by a knee injury, providing competition for Daryl Murphy.

Manager Mick McCarthy added two more strikers - Aaron Mclean and David McGoldrick - to his squad last week and on Saturday confirmed that he was still chasing ex-loanee DJ Campbell, who recently went back to QPR.

The Blues would now appear to have a surfeit of frontmen with Nathan Ellington having returned to the club yesterday after his loan from Scunthorpe and Murphy, Michael Chopra, Jason Scotland, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - who McCarthy views as primarily a striker - Ronan Murray and the injured Paul Taylor already at Portman Road.

Worth a gamble provided the fee wasn't too high.

The Championship is all about goals so this will (hopefully) be a good signing.

MM is stamping his mark on the team - think more players will come in and leave.

Now we can clear out some of the others. Ellington must be on his way and Scotland (even though I like him). Maybe Chopra too. Seems like Murray may be off too. Exciting to see McCarthy's team take shape. COYB.

I love a striker as much as the next idiot, so i'm over the moon to see plenty of options, but i'd rather have put the wage money of all these recent signings in a pile for DJ Campbell. The most desirable striker, is one that's in form and scoring goals, not unfit loanees that have no game time under their belts....................but, as I mentioned on the board some time ago now, I was made aware that securing DJ'services on a permanent basis were slim and I suppose MM is looking ahead now.

Generating competition for places is never a bad thing and at least some of these guys have a bit of presence about them.

We still need wingers and PLEASE Mick, at least 1 new decent centre half!

@tractorboyolly 11 strikers at the club who haven't scored 11 goals between them for us this season. I'm delighted with this. He has played U17 & U19 for England and is only 21. Consider it a straight swap for Ellington and tell me you're not happy.

I like the idea we are signing players before letting our old ones go.

Delighted by this and also like the way MM goes about his business. A complete contracst to previous managers. I suspect a number of other strikers will leave and rightly so. Murray simply hasn't cut it, whilst Scotlands days are numbered. I also wonder if Chopra will go - can't see Mick being impressed with the problems he brings - but who will want him? Ellington is up there as one of our worst ever signings and wouldn't be surprised if Murphy heads back up north - if not immediately he certainly will in May. Mick is now building his team which is great. A GK, CB and creative midfielder still required though.

It's clear MM had Nouble intentions.

This being linked to a player and then signing him is very un-Ipswich.

What happened to the protracted rumours and speculation before Palace sign the player?

Historically, the teams promoted from the Championship have a large pack of strikers to provide several options up top. Hopefully in the long run we can look at this influx of strikers and it be another ploy to laud Big Mick for!

An unproven signing... which is not a bad thing, if all the things said on here about Mick's scouting network are true. Lets face it, if there are hidden gems at Wolves, then Mick is the man to know how to find them.

Excellent signing and young with it!

Would now like the club to offload Chopra, JET, Murray, Scotland and Ellington. None of them have anything to offer now and would be well down the pecking order for a place in the side.

Would love to see McGoldrick and McLean up front with Nouble out wide left with Edwards on the right.

Could be a very exciting few months ahead.

Mick is beginning to take my breath away! Things are happening so quickly and most of them not what we expect to happen. I am beginning to think (hope) he has a master plan which most of us do not begin to understand. Really young people are being signed and yet he is trying to sign NRC too, which most supporters do not agree with, but I am beginning to wonder if he is not signing him to keep an older head among the energetic youngsters. If (when) he pulls this off we are all going to be cheering him even those who are questioning his current policy. COYB
