Town Confirm Nouble Signing
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2013 14:12

Town have confirmed that striker Frank Nouble has signed from Wolves for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old, who will wear the number 35 shirt, has put pen to paper on an 18-month deal.

The 6ft 3in tall Londoner began his career with Chelsea’s youth set-up before joining West Ham in 2009.

While with the Hammers, he spent spells on loan at West Brom, Swindon, Swansea, Barnsley, Charlton, Gillingham and Barnsley again.

England U17 and U19 international - who also qualifies for the Ivory Coast via his parents - made only six starts and 13 sub appearances while at Upton Park, scoring just the one senior goal.

In the summer he moved on a free transfer to Wolves, signing a two-year deal, but has made only two sub appearances in the Championship, in addition to one start, two games from the bench and one goal in the Capital One Cup.

Overall, he has made 41 senior starts and 33 sub appearances for his various clubs, scoring nine goals.

Nouble would appear to be a direct replacement for former loanee Tyrone Barnett, whose spell from Peterborough was cut short by a knee injury, providing competition for Daryl Murphy.

Manager Mick McCarthy added two more strikers - Aaron Mclean and David McGoldrick - to his squad last week and on Saturday confirmed that he was still chasing ex-loanee DJ Campbell, who recently went back to QPR.

The Blues would now appear to have a surfeit of frontmen with Nathan Ellington having returned to the club yesterday after his loan from Scunthorpe and Murphy, Michael Chopra, Jason Scotland, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - who McCarthy views as primarily a striker - Ronan Murray and the injured Paul Taylor already at Portman Road.

Just what we need! Big, physical, quite experienced and still very young! Hoping this lad can take over from Murph at the start of next season, if not before! Well done Mick, good business!

very suprised by this. lOOKED EXTREMELY CLUMSY AND POOR AGAINST US WHEN AT WEST HAM he played in a friendly and one league match last season if i recall. ALSO PLAYED AGAINST US for wolves (maybe another loan club) and looked very

lethargic and uninspiring

And hes a wolves player who played for them twice ??

If Barca can do well with a team full of midfielders, we can do OK with a team full of strikers!

Must be goodbye to Ellington and Scotland now. Looks like Murray will not step up to the mark and Chopra's on sticky wicket.

Friend of mine (Wolves fan) saw Nouble pre-season and although Nouble scored, my friend thought he was pretty average.

This seems to be a bit of good business. Must admit McCarthy was not my choice to take on the Town job but he is convincing my more and more that he was our best option!

so we can now throw that "players dont want to come here "nonsense out of the window.we now have a gaffer who players want to play for. this is what we thought was going to happen when keane was given the job.this is our best period transfer wise for god knows how many years! i think its only a matter of time before we start a strong march up the the table.and also the support seems to be fully concentrated on football instead of why we are in the state we are. mark this year down, 2013 town resurrection.....COME ON YOU BLUES

Look on the bright side with so many strikers at the club, no more one man upfront. Does not look so good for some of the strikers who are underperforming. Taylor may well be doing time soon and why do we still have Jet. Can not understand why he wants Reo. Still have faith.

How do we pronounce his surname, Phil?
Nouble as in noble
Nouble as in double
Nouble as in rouble
Nouble as in Buble (Michael, that is)?

Excited at how McCarthy's putting together his own side. Nouble has a lot to prove after his time at Wolves so here's hoping he does it here! If nothing else, this is amusing: "This has $#@!ed my Wolves calendar up. There goes Mr July" (from Wolves forum).

An interesting signing. Looking at his Wikipedia entry the message that I take is that he was a very promising young player who has lost his way a bit over the last year or two. Mr McCarthy may be gambling that he can put him back on track, which would explain the relatively short deal (only 18 months). I agree with other comments that we now seem to be top heavy with centre forwards (I would be disappointed to see Murphy go). We need another centre back as Kisnorbo, although a good player, is only here for a month and has a dodgy injury record (see Wikipedia entry) and it seems that the manager doesn't have much faith in Ainsley.

Its good to see a permanent signing and someone that is young and hopefully can prove himself under MM where he couldn't at previous clubs. If it doesn't work out, frankly I couldn't care as cannot be worse than some of the others we have within the club already.

I would also like to add that Clegg and Evans haven't been given enough credit for what has happened over the last couple of months. It wasn't so long ago that Clegg in particular was being berated for being the reason signings fell through and ITFC not being attractive as a club to potential players.

Clegg and Evans made the decision and secured the deal to bring MM to the club. MM in turn is doing his bit on and off the field and is clearly being supported in the transfer market. I think they should both get more credit for this than they have, so well done.

Looking forward to seeing who signs next.

Maybe mick is going down the old Kevin Keegan at newcastle route of it does not matter how many you score we will score one more than you. Probably a good idea as we do not keep many clean sheets. COYB

Seen him play against us a couple of times notably for Barnsley where he was on loan from West Ham. He is the sort of player who looks dangerous when playing against us but when you see him against other opposition he looks ordinary. Can't really go wrong with this one he is big and powerful is quick and given the right service who knows what can be achieved. Love the way Mick/Clegg do these deals but looks like the end of the road for our has beens Ellington and Scotland (who I liked) plus Murray and possibly JET who is a fool to himself - so much talent but won't use it.
