Orr Loan Extended to End of Season
Thursday, 10th Jan 2013 14:54

Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that Blackburn have agreed to allow right-back Bradley Orr to remain on loan at Portman Road until the end of the season. The 30-year-old has been with the Blues since November, making 10 starts.

McCarthy confirmed that the former Bristol City and Newcastle man will be at Portman Road until May: “They’ve agreed to extend to the end of the season.”

In terms of a longer stay, the Blues boss says Orr has “at least two” years remaining on his Blackburn contract and he’ll see how things develop in the summer: “It’ll all depend on what the deal is, but I like him and he’s done well. I think he brings something to it, he’s a good personality around the place.

“He’s a really good pro, trains well, he’s done it right since he’s come here. A smashing fella, a good personality.”

Nigel Reo-Coker’s short-term contract is up after Saturday and McCarthy confirmed, as we reported on Tuesday, that the club is set to hold talks with the midfielder and his representative: “With Nigel we’re just waiting to see what they want to do, Nigel and his agent.

“I’ve spoken to Nigel, I’d like to just keep the status quo the same and keep him until the end of the season.”

McCarthy doesn’t expect to make any further additions to his squad this week: “No, not at the moment, we’re still looking.

"Nobody is going to be [coming in before the weekend], I’d like it if they did but they aren’t going to be walking in the door for tomorrow now.”

He's earned it, hope we bid for him and he signs at end of season could be a really important versatile bench player for us at the very least

I think he is a good utility player and our defence has come on leaps and bounds since he was there and Carlos pushed into midfield. Just hope it doesn't stop Hewitt from progressing because from what i've heard he looked more than ready to step up to the first team against Villa.

Good. He will help young Hewitt

He's grown into his role and I always think he makes us look better as a unit at the back. Dunno how much Blackburn want or whether we can tie up a permanent deal, but I like the look of this squad, and if we can get a few out next week, and a creative midfielder and wide midfielder in, Mick will have done excellently.

It's almost the ideal scenario to try a few out. We need to get a few results to stay clear of the bottom three but once that's achieved, we'll have an opportunity to gel the team together before hopefully a promotion push in the next few seasons.

a good player to have around , but hope it doesn't limit Hewitt's first team appearances . maybe orr could do a job in midfield , not sure carlos deserves a place in midfield , he has been very disappointing.

Hewitt as our number 1 with Orr as backup.

Glad to see Orr staying, he's been pretty solid since he got here (first game at Leicester aside). I'm struggling to keep up with us this transfer window! Don't forget Mick said 'no more signings are imminent' after the Kisnorbo deal and within 24hours we had McGoldrick and McLean in!

I liked this bloke from the first interview I heard with him and after a shaky couple of games he has grown in stature at the Club. He is solid and packs a hard tackle and appears to be a good professional. Hewitts time will come I have no doubt but while we have to try and get ourselves safe this season Orr is definitely the man for me to play at full back.

good news, right back has been one of those positions I haven't been concerned with at the moment. Hope this does happen.

Nice to see that mm is keeping the quality players here, has been really good in my eyes since he's been here and certainly deserves his extention. Would before sign him up at the end of the season given the chance.

I like the straightforward un-fussy way Mick does business.

I'm glad that Orr is staying, seems a real professional, intelligent player that can keep the right back birth warm for the emerging talent of Hewitt or do a 'Gareth Barry' type of role in midfield.

Happy with this, good solid right back. Experienced, strong tackler, decent crosses, adds extra height to the defence. In the 'Chris Makin' mould, but gets forward more. Just what we need right know. Elliot Hewitt looks good but he is only 18 and surely one for the future. What we need right now is tough layers scrapping for every point to keep us in this league

Pleased with this, defence has been more settled since he's been here & recovered well after a wobbly start at Leicester. Very impressed with Hewitt last week

good cover for a few positions. Much rather see Hewitt as 1st choice RB though, Orr struggles with pace against him.
