Chopra Credited With FA Cup Goal
Wednesday, 16th Jan 2013 21:19

Striker Michael Chopra has been officially credited with Town’s goal in the 2-1 FA Cup third round defeat at Aston Villa earlier in the month. Villa defender Eric Lichaj diverted the Blues frontman’s cross-shot into his own net with many media sources — including TWTD — giving the goal to the American in their match reports.

In the FA Cup there is no dubious goals panel and it is down to clubs to confirm who is officially awarded their goals.

An FA spokesman confirmed that Town had credited the Villa goal to Chopra in their official match report form.

Blatant own goal but glad it's gone to Chops. Could be the little morale boost he needs to get firing again!

Up to the club? Surely obvious they would give it to chops? Haha.

Agreed Michael11, strikers feed off scoring goals and the more they score the better they play.
He obviously wont get his 25-30 this season but he is still a class act in this league if he can get his head straight

His face in that picture looks as though he wants to kill that Villa player!

it looks like Lee Martin may have suggested to him that it was an own goal.

Well the PA gave it to him. The bookies paid out after the game.

Fair one, but it was a blatant own goal!

Up to the Club?

I am sure I saw Mick power it in from the half-way line?

As mentioned the FA are a bit behind. I collected my Chops first goal scorer bet online in the evening when i got home from the game haha.

Although i would to see the new loanees given a chance, i think the future of the top two is Nouble doing the big man role and Chops feeding off him. Hopefully he gets a bit more of a run and he can get some confidence.

A future front four to select from of Chops, Nouble, DMcG and poss DJ (all hopefully permanent) would be a good choice i think. In Mick we trust. COYB's.

Re bookies, whether they paid out on the day or not, the goal isn't officially credited until the club sends in their report.

Not sure what happens in cases where a player is credited by PA as the scorer on the day and then the club (or in the Premier League the dubious goals panel) then change it to someone else. I assume those who claimed their winnings aren't going to rush back to pay them back!

He looks like he wants to get Lee Martin in this picture. On the gambling side of things I find it unlikely that many people would have bet on Chopra to score first.
