Campbell: It Was a Pleasure
Friday, 18th Jan 2013 15:34

Former Blues loanee DJ Campbell has said it was a pleasure to play for Town. The 31-year-old is set to join another club on a three-year deal from QPR with Crystal Palace and Hull City both having confirmed their interest.

Campbell tweeted: “To all Ipswich fans it was a pleasure to play for Ipswich! It’s a shame I couldn't stay long-term but I truly wish you all the best. God bless you all.”

The striker scored 10 goals in a 17-game, three-month loan spell at Portman Road.

3 years deal can't ague with that really, not really part of the young and hungry plan. Good luck DJ.

Nive gesture from the guy - I'm sure we all wish him all the best too.

I can't help be interested in why we couldn't get him back here though.

I'm not sure it was our league position - he says it's a shame he couldn't stay long term. But then, maybe he's just letting us down gently...

Did his new club offer him more money, or was it that they offered him 3 years where we could only stretch to 2? From what MM said, it could easily have been the latter.

Don't blame the guy in the slightest tho. Good luck to him.

Don't blame him and I don't think it is a bad move for Town.
He was excellent for us on loan but so was a Mr. J Bullard and look how that worked out once he was put on an expensive long term deal.
Young and hungry is the way to go! COYB.

Was good while it lasted and was a KEY part of our revival under Mick. Just that the timing wasn't right for him longer term and MM had already covered his options there "knowing" he would not be back ... and with Paul Taylor back next year (we trust) DJ may not have featured so highly. Does he enjoy the bench ?
Need GOALS from Midfield please now Mick!

Thanks for the effort and energy DJ - mutually beneficial I'd say. All the best at Palace ... give DD our love when you see him in training!!!

As I said yesterday I didnt think we could offer him a long term deal or the money so not really surprised. We have some good younger players so onwards and upwards.
Best of luck in the future DJ.

Thank you DJ. You won our hearts and helped us turn the corner!

A 31 year old striker has to try to get a 3 year contract asap (that's why DJ didn't want to go out on loan again until the end of season when he would be offering a new club even less 'playing time').

MM has handled this in the only way he could. Even DJ might have 'a touch of the Bullards' once he's secured a 3 year deal.

DJ, you won't be forgotten for what you've done for us!

Does anyone think MM would have wanted to work with DD by the way ? Just a thought - he is (was) playing so much better once away from PJ ... maybe MM would have had even better results from him ???

I'm not sure the last time we had a player who scored 10 in 17 but DJ's done his job and the club were right not to chase him with a 3 year deal.

Cant blame him if he's getting 3 years elsewhere, can understand why we didn't offer that too.
My money would be on Hull, Bruce isn't the most careful of managers when it comes to spending money.

Best of luck to DJ. Shame he won't be returning ... but suspect a 3-year deal at the age of 31 is the draw.

If we stay up, DJ Campbell must take a lot of credit. We needed a goalscorer and he provided the goals that have given us a good chance of avoiding relegation. Thanks DJ and good luck.

Wonder if he'd signed if we hadn't signed 3 new strikers?

Down to size of contract as usual at Ipswich. That third year will look cheap if our current loan strikers can't find the net and we are looking at Div1 or mid table Championship next year.
As usual the nearly signed him men, nothing changes.
