Wigan Linked With Move for Zubar
Monday, 21st Jan 2013 08:55

Premier League Wigan have been linked with a loan move for Wolves right-back Ronald Zubar, who was strongly tipped to be joining the Blues before Christmas. The 27-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was brought to Molineux by Town manager Mick McCarthy.

The Frenchman was out of favour under previous Wolves boss Ståle Solbakken but has come back into the fold since Dean Saunders took over as manager, starting the last two games.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez, who has also been mentioned in connection with Liverpool's Sebastian Coates and former Rangers man Madjid Bougherra, confirmed that he is looking for a defender with experience of playing in England as the Lancashire side attempt their annual escape from the drop: “It is important we bring a defender in, but I don't think we will be looking at the Spanish market this time.

"It is difficult for a foreign player to arrive in January and make an impact, but we do need someone."

A right-back is likely to be near the top of Blues boss McCarthy’s wish-list with new Blackburn manager Michael Appleton appearing certain to recall Bradley Orr when his three-month spell at Portman Road is up next Saturday.

I would like to see Hewitt given a chance, but will trust McCarthy's judgement on when he is ready. We do need experience available for the position too.

I think if we can get him cheap as he's out of contract in the summer he'd be a good signing. As promising as Hewitt looks, we can't rely on an 18 year old to play with no cover every week, especially as he's quite injury prone too!

I would prefer to see Hewitt being given a run. I understand what Mark and Michael11 are saying, but there's only one way that Hewitt will get experience and that's by being played. He showed against Villa what he can do, we should back him.

Why cant you rely on a 18 year old ? Bobby Robson relied on a 17 year to mark george best, and Burley did a fine job as well, incidentally that was at old trafford and burley"s senior debut.

Give Hewitt the job i say...coyb

The lad is definitely good enough but in 6 months we've seen him injured how many times already? Would you like us to end up with Edwards right back again if he gets injured?
