St Mirren Friendly Cancelled
Wednesday, 15th May 2013 01:33

Town have abandoned plans to play a friendly at St Mirren during pre-season. Last month, the SPL side revealed that talks had taken place regarding a game, with Blues boss Mick McCarthy subsequently saying he’d like to play two matches in Scotland during the summer.

However, Buddies’ manager Danny Lennon says Town are unable to fit in a trip north of the border: “I spoke to Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy and he informed me that they can’t come up for the game. It’s nothing to do with our schedule, Ipswich had to cancel it.”

The proposed friendly had been linked with Town’s reported interest in St Mirren midfielder Kenny McLean.

Town’s only confirmed friendly so far is the visit to Colchester United on Tuesday 23rd July (KO 7.45pm). McCarthy plans to take the squad to Ireland for a week's training and one friendly.

Meanwhile, the Blues starting talks with St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson has thwarted Aberdeen’s attempt to sign the out-of-contract 25-year-old, according to one of the Scottish tabloids.

Rumours that Town are targeting the Scotland international have been circulating online for the last week.

Reading between the lines does this mean that we won't be signing Davidson or McClean then?

Reading between the lines village blue I'd say it means we're close to signing Davidson hence why we've pulled our interest in McClean and the friendly!

That is how I would read it as well RoyalBlue but who knows what is going on behind the scenes, however knowing how Mick has worked in the past I would say plenty.

How would a cancelled friendly against St.Mirren hamper our chances of signing someone from St.Johnstone?

I'm sure there's still every chance of trying to get McLean too, since when did you have to play a friendly with a team before nicking their players!

Both look decent propositions, hopefully we get them in...

Gutted for us Scotland-based Town fans to miss the chance to see the game which was on our doorstep.

Shame - could have had a mini tour up there with a couple of matches - would have been a good PR exercise and an opportunity to make some decent contacts.

Guess that's part of MM not wanting to loose site of his chimney pot pre season - don't know what he would do if we ever qualified for Europe !!!
