Town Amongst Clubs Eyeing Campbell
Sunday, 9th Jun 2013 22:00

Town, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday are amongst the clubs to have shown interest in striker DJ Campbell, whose QPR contract is up at the end of the month.

Campbell enjoyed a highly successful loan with the Blues between October and January and ended the 2012/13 season as Town’s top scorer with 10 goals from 17 games.

At the end of the spell Blues boss Mick McCarthy expressed an interest in keeping the striker at Portman Road. However, Campbell subsequently joined Blackburn on loan in February after a deadline day permanent move to Rovers failed to go through in time.

Campbell’s season was ended in early March by a foot injury after only five starts, two sub appearances and no goals for the Lancastrians.

The striker recently said that he was weighing up a number of options and at the time wasn’t ruling out remaining at Loftus Road: "We're speaking to a few people at the minute, as well as QPR.”

Whether Town firm up their interest may depend on whether the transfer-listed Michael Chopra is off-loaded. The frontman, believed to be the club’s top earner, has a year remaining on his contract and has indicated that he is in no hurry to move on.

Meanwhile, on a quiet Sunday for Town tabloid speculation, the Blues were again reported to be battling Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday for the signature of released Brighton midfielder Gary Dicker.

Elsewhere, Town boss McCarthy may have been interested to see Watford announcing the release of midfielder Mark Yeates on Friday.

The Blues were understood to have made an enquiry regarding the 28-year-old Irishman in January.

Like others ill always be grateful for his goals last season but he's had 13 clubs in 13 years. That and the fact Harry doesn't consider him part of his plans to fire him back into the perm speaks volumes for me.

I agree with Keanish, he was superb for us when on loan and no small part helped us stay up, but he's 31, a bit of a journeyman (didnt know he had 13 clubs in 13 years).

It was great for all parties short term but not for 2 years.

What about a 1 year deal with a clause if he scores more than 15 league goals he gets a 2nd year?

It would seem that the majority have forgoten that we have Taylor, and he did look very promising until the injury,
I f we could only offload the freeloader then we can relax a little more, thinking very positive the new season, DJ thanks for your help but you are not really needed now.

As others have pointed out quite rightly, we already have McGoldrick, Murphy, Nouble, Taylor, Marriott, Chopra and JET. Even if two or three were to leave for one reason or another, it would still be difficult to justify acquiring another forward on a permanent contract when we have issues in defence and wide midfield that need solving.
