Town Amongst Clubs Eyeing Campbell
Sunday, 9th Jun 2013 22:00

Town, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday are amongst the clubs to have shown interest in striker DJ Campbell, whose QPR contract is up at the end of the month.

Campbell enjoyed a highly successful loan with the Blues between October and January and ended the 2012/13 season as Town’s top scorer with 10 goals from 17 games.

At the end of the spell Blues boss Mick McCarthy expressed an interest in keeping the striker at Portman Road. However, Campbell subsequently joined Blackburn on loan in February after a deadline day permanent move to Rovers failed to go through in time.

Campbell’s season was ended in early March by a foot injury after only five starts, two sub appearances and no goals for the Lancastrians.

The striker recently said that he was weighing up a number of options and at the time wasn’t ruling out remaining at Loftus Road: "We're speaking to a few people at the minute, as well as QPR.”

Whether Town firm up their interest may depend on whether the transfer-listed Michael Chopra is off-loaded. The frontman, believed to be the club’s top earner, has a year remaining on his contract and has indicated that he is in no hurry to move on.

Meanwhile, on a quiet Sunday for Town tabloid speculation, the Blues were again reported to be battling Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday for the signature of released Brighton midfielder Gary Dicker.

Elsewhere, Town boss McCarthy may have been interested to see Watford announcing the release of midfielder Mark Yeates on Friday.

The Blues were understood to have made an enquiry regarding the 28-year-old Irishman in January.

He could be another Bullard, excellent on loan rubbish whilst playing but I would be happy to take the risk if Chops leaves and so does JET

I think this would be a great signing, he has already proven he can score goals for us. I don't think Murphy or nouble have the scoring power to get us into the prem but I think if we sign Dj, him and McGoldrick would be deadly.
sign him up, coyb!

I'd like to see Chopra and JET step up to the plate and silence all the negative comments. Until or unless they actually leave they are ITFC players and both will need to perform either to put themselves in the shop window if they actually want to leave or to get a new offer here. Campbell helped us a lot with his goals but his wage demands would upset the boat, not what we need IMO

don't worry everybody with mcgoldrick. nouble. murphy. marriot. taylor. we have the best strike force in the championship by far.

Have to agree with fugliblue we have enough strike force so why have another high earner sitting on the bench lets pay up chopra contract cause he has no respect for club team and us fans and use his wage to for stearman as we r bit weak in the defence area

Could be a great signing if the wages were right.

Don't want another Bullard or even Chops!

Gareth, I agree about Stearman but if we paid Chopra up how could we then use his wages to pay Stearman? They would be already spent.

Yeah agreed it's all about wages - I can't see the point if he wants a big salary at 31, this maybe one of the few occasions I'd say get him in on loan, maybe 6 months but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want that.

Bluebill mm must got some budget to buy some new players chopra is a lost cause thats costin us alot money in wages for doin nothing to inprove the team evans need dig just little bit deeper to get rid of a player that offers us nothing and get stearman in if his serious bout our club and wantin to inprove us on and off the field issues

I would rather us lose money get rid chopra to be able to get stearman in and get other players we need on loan or free then keep losin money on chopra whos sittin on bench laughin and could cost us losin out on stearman who will improve r team and benifit the whole club

He is more interested in where he can earn the most money.... not the sort of player we want on our books anymore.
Take away his penalties & he's not a 20 a season man, also he would get in the way of the progress of Nouble who could become a twenty a season man, is cheaper , and has a future! .................No more Mercenaries .

PS if Mick cannot come up with another forward instead of Campbell then his scouting network is not as good as i assumed it is.

Beattiesballbag Agreed 100%. Noticeable that Blackburn are making no move for him!

we have taylor murphy mcgoldrick nouble with marriot snapping thier heels i really dont see a need for him unless one of these players leaves which is unlikely.
also as has been pointed out he turned us down to take the money at blackburn so i would steer clear.
some people seem to think ther bigger the better when it comes to squads but i think a tight quality squad is the way to go.
if you have players hanging around not playing they become de-motivated and often cause trouble.
yeates is a good player saw him a few times at colchester and his free kicks and set pieces were great. he can frustrate at times but then pulls something out of the bag.
if yeates wants to come and the wages are right he would be a good signing

Sindre94 - that's a strange post considering his goalscoring record for us - he's not old, he's a natural goal scorer - and on 'sensible terms' would be well worth signing.

A confidence player too - on the pitch - and in the dressing room. Ask players who've played with him !

It's a no from me too!
If we were reported to be looking at strikers like Paddy Madden I'd be disappointed if we went for Campbell. Campbell is looking for his last big pay day so I doubt this is a good fit.

if we are serious about a promotion challenge we need this sort of striker in our ranks regardless of who we have.

walberswick added 19:46 - Jun 10
we aren't going anywhere scoring 14 goals away from home and 48 all together with a top scorer of 7.

chopra thinks he kept us with his 3 goals?
